Hi! I am new to the site and will be going to Italy for the first time at the end of June. I plan on spending a few days in Venice before making my way over to Portoroz, Slovenia. What is the best way to get to Portoroz? I have read that I can take a train from Venice to Trieste and then a bus from Trieste to Portoroz, but how easy is this and how long will the whole trip take? Will it matter if I am traveling on Saturday? Being that this is a higher tourist time, should I buy train/ bus tickets in advance?
Thanks so much for your help!
There are only 2 buses a day from Trieste to Ljubljana is it better to reserve a ticket before hand
thank you

We will hire a car and travel around Slovenia. I notice that Trieste is very nearby Divaca, Skojcan caves (which we are going to visit) and we very much like to go to visit Trieste as well. Can any VT member advise me which international border check-points should I pass through (as it seems on the map that there are different routes between the 2 cities) and are the check-points opened 24 hours? We intend to depart from Ljubljana and visit Skojcan Caves and Trieste and return to Ljubljana within the same day. Is my schedule feasible and is it too tight? Any advice/information is welcomed.
What are the bus/train options to travel from Trieste to Rijeka? Is there much to see in Rijeka in January on a day trip. Is it worthwhile staying in Rijeka for the night? Cheers.

I am travelling with my 24 year old daughter, arriving Venice Marco Polo May 3 a.m. I have to be in Opataja, Croatia for a conference early evening of May 4 to morning of May 7. We plan to take train from Venice to Trieste, and spend overnight there, before heading to Opataja the next day. Looking for good, reasonably priced hotel near train/bus station. Also: is bus to Opataja a pretty trip? Would it be worth the adventure to take a boat to Croatia, and continue on bus to Opataja? Any other recommendations re: what to do while in Trieste (for a very short time) would be appreciated. M

Hi, I'm new to VT. I was born in Trieste many years ago and now planning a vacation to Northern Italy, including Trieste, of course. I read how difficult the traffic can be there and I would like for my trip to be stress free. Could anyone please tell me what airport would be best to fly into that would allow me to get a rental and enjoy the countryside? Also would like to know about driving to Venice from Trieste. Would taking the train be easier? Would like to visit Lake Como, Cinqueterre also. Best way to see these areas. Learning Italian is great fun, but other than a few important phrases, will I need to know alot? Thanks for your help and suggestions in advance.
Can some experts in Trieste tell me how to go from the airport to Duino? Is there a bus, and how much? If not, how much is the taxi ride?
I will be in Trieste later this month and am looking for single size (German style) feather comforters. Does anyone know if any of the department stores in Trieste might carry them - or is there a specialized bedding store in town. I know I can find them in Austria and Germany, but I haven't seen them in Italy.

Does anyone know if this ferry is still in service, and where I could find a timetable? the one on their website will not load. Thanks, Sam
I would like to take an inexpensive ferry from Trieste to Venice in July. Any suggestions? Where can I book the trip?
Hello all I'm planning to go straight to Slovenia after landing in the airport in Trieste. Must i go into the train station in Trieste city or can i get to Slovenia directly from the airport? Does it have to be a bus? Can i get a train from Trieste train station? I haven't quite decided what my first destination in Slovenia will be just yet, but i'm open to suggestions. Naturally Ljubljana is getting plenty of attention while i'm in Slovenia, but it doesn't have to be my first stop. I want to go to Pivka, so i am planning to visit there but i can always make a day trip from Ljubljana. Anyway, thats for the Slovenia forum! I was in Trieste many years ago, thats the only reason i'm not going to be staying in the city for a while, that and the fact that i have a limited amount of holiday time! :) Anyway, thanks in advance everyone!
