We are planning a trip along the Black Sea coast, in September, and are looking for a pleasant place for a stopover between Sinop and Trabzon. We have been looking at Samsun, Unye or Ordu - but can't decide which one. Any information about the towns, or any thoughts about which place is better, and why - or any other towns which would be preferable - we would be grateful. I'm looking for the best way to get from Trabzon to somewhere that I can get on the train to Istanbul. Some people recommend going from Trabzon to Kars and getting the train there. But Kars is east of Trabzon, the exact opposite direction from Istanbul. Why would people go to Kars to get the train? It looks like Sivas would be a better connection point! Wouldn't it make more sense to go Trabzon-Sivas-Istanbul, not Trabzon-Kars-Istanbul?

I'm wondering if anyone's done this recently (in last 6 months or so), particularly starting from the Trabzon airport and if they can provide any guidance or advice?
