    • Which district to stay in?

      Japan 1 hours ago

Hi, I'm going to tokyo soon for 8 days. I will be on backpackers budget of about au$100 per day so wondering if anyone can recommend a good hostel in a good area with lots of things to see/do and a good nightlife around. Also what would be some good affordable things to see and do in tokyo? how to get around? And what would be the cheapest/easiest way getting from the airport to the city?

Superstores & Discount stores in Tokyo

      Tokyo 22 hours ago

      Hi,
Are there any large supermarket style superstores in Tokyo that sell a varied range of goods - I'm thinking of stores similar to Walmart in the US or Tesco in the UK, I realise that these type of stores might be on the outskirts of the city, but If it is close to a subway or train station that would be great
I'm not looking for anything in particular, I just wan't to have a look around at the different products available in Japan.
Also, are there any other large discount style shops - similar to the large Don Quijote store in Asakusa.
      Thanks for any advice
      Tony

Travelling to sightseeing spots around Fukui

      Fukui-ken Apr 17, 2015 at 6:46 PM

I am planning on visiting Fukui prefecture next month and it seems that there are many interesting places however they are quite dispersed from each other. How easy is it to travel in Fukui? Is there a sight-seeing bus or something similar? Thanks.

    • Japan away from the big cities

      Japan Mar 25, 2015 at 9:26 AM

      Hello,
We are going to Japan soon and want to experience some of the countryside. We have planned for two nights in Yufuin, Oita prefecture and one night in Hakone.
We like mountains and hot springs, but I´m wondering if Yufuin and Hakone are very much like one another?
Are both places just crowded with tourists?
Does anybody have another suggestion if we want to experience some countryside living, preferrably between Kyoto and Tokyo or somewhere south of Hiroshima?
      Thanks for any advice!

      First Day Itinerary

      Tokyo Apr 12, 2015 at 5:23 AM

I will be in Tokyo on a Sunday and will be coming in from Narita airport around 2pm. I would like to maximize my day so after check in I am thinking of going to:

      1) Meiji Shrine - I have read somewhere that it's closed on Mondays but the shrine's website says it's open daily. I also know that I can reach either via Metro (Shinjuku-sanchome station- Meijijingumae station) or JR Line (Shinjuku-Harajuku station). I'm confused on how to reach the shrine after I exit either of the 2 stations. Google shows that it will be a 25 min walk from either stations to the entrance of the Shrine. The website of Meiji Shrine says it will be a 1min walk to the South gate. Which is which? Also, is an hour enough to really enjoy Meiji shrine?

      2) Harajuku/Takeshita Dori - After I exit Meiji Shrine
      3) Omotesando- for Number Sugar/Omotesando Koffee/Crayon House (have their vegetarian buffet for dinner) Japanese food is my favorite! : )

      4) Shibuya - do I still have time? If I don't I can do this the next day.

Narita Airport to Tokyu Stay Shinjuku

      Tokyo Apr 11, 2015 at 1:11 AM

To reach Tokyu Stay Shinjuku I will take the NEX to:
      1) Tokyo Station - transfer to Metro (Marunouchi line) - Shinjuku-Sanchome station - exit and reach hotel on 1 min walk.

      2) Shinjuku station which I believe is connected to Shinjuku-Sanchome. I am not sure how far a walk this will be. I will be bringing a luggage although wheeled and small size. Tokyo station seems daunting to a first-timer like me.

      Which is the better way?

Is this how Japanese people address eachother?

Concept Hotel Waq vs Route Inn Toyam

by Melanie_Putra Online Now Nov 1, 2012 at 8:22 PM

Has anyone stayed at both the Concept Hotel Waq (Wakyu) AND Route Inn Toyama? I want to stay one night before an early departure for the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route (8-9am). In general, Wakyu definitely looks better but it also costs Y1500-2000 more. Anyway, we won't be staying in much. But what I am interested in is the breakfast. I like Japanese style breakfast but it will be even better if there are also Western selection. The pics show nice presentation at Wakyu but I don't know if they have lesser choices than Route Inn or not... It looks that way from the photos. So if anyone can give me some input?

      Thanks!

Firefly Squid (Hotaruika) at Namerikawa (Toyama Prefecture)

by Melanie_Putra Online Now Sep 16, 2011 at 7:25 PM

      Hi Guys,
I want to find out more abour the firefly squid (Hotaruika) at Namerikawa (Toyama Prefecture) but it is very hard to find details. I really hope someone would be able to assist and provide these info :
      1. Is the Hotaruika Museum worth a visit?
      2. If I go during season (2nd half of April) would I be seeing real life squid at the museum? What else is shown there?
      3. The Hotaruika Sightseeing Boat Tour - Is it worth the 3am trip?
      4. How much is the tour per person?
      5. What time will we be sent back to the port?
      6. What are the options to access the Namerikawa Fishing Port at 3am from Toyama?
7 . Reservations for the boat ride go on sale in March and sell out quickly. How to make reservation?

I really want to find out more so I know whether to add 1 more night to Toyama stay next spring.

      Thanks!

by Melanie_Putra Online Now Sep 16, 2011 at 7:23 PM

      Hi Guys,

Has anyone visited this Tulip Fair? Is it worth a visit if I happen to be in Toyama? I have been to Kuekenhof (Holland) before but not my friends. Also, maybe being in Japan, the garden design may be different. The Japanese are so artistic!

I really want to find out more so I know whether to add 1 more day to my Toyama stay next spring.

      Thanks!
