Snorkelling off Townsville

Hi everyone, My girlfriend and I are looking for a nice relaxing getaway and can get really cheap flights to Townsville. We would really like to do some quality snorkelling and was wondering if anyone has any opinions on the snorkelling available off Townsville or magnetic island. How is it compared to other areas in the great barrier reef? Is it worth seeing? Any thoughts? your advice would be greatly appreciated.
