Hi! By "lots to do" do you mean in the "partying" sense or in the "sightseeing and activities" sense?. For partying you may have to go all the way up to Benidorm (almost 2 hours by road), although Alicante could be fun too, albeit much less touristic. If you want to explore the area, and given that you will not be enjoying the beach in December because it will be too cold, I would take base in Murcia or Alicante, rent a car and get to know the Costa Blanca beyond the mountains. Good luck and enjoy new year in Spain: why not try and have the 12 grapes on the night, like the locals do. I haven't been to La Manga for more than a decade. Does anybody know what is going on there at the moment?
