Money changing: better deal in a bank or money changer?

by mim95 Online Now Sep 12, 2005 at 5:36 AM

I still have some yen from my trip to Japan. Where do I get a better deal, in a bank or a money changer, to change it back to Canadian dollar?

Best deal is to go back to Japan for some more vacation.... Failing that, if you shop around you will probably not find much difference by the time you take the commision charge out.

If you go to a bank, you may not be able to go to just any branch. Some do not seem to be able to deal with foreign currency that isn't US or UK(and that means English pounds, not Scottish!) Call the bank currency exchange desks, and Deaks, and some of the other money changers for what their service charge is, and what exchange rate they use.
