was researching getting from narita to central tokyo and was wondering if tokyo free kippu works on that route? thanks
hello: we will be staying at the New Otani Makuhari while my husband is on a business trip. Two questions: 1. how do we get from there (the JR stop is Kaihin Makuhari) to central tokyo, I guess what is the route? and 2. how do we get from the hotel to Narita? I tried looking at the JR map but it was too confusing!!! fortunately my husband knows japanese, so when we get there it won't be a problem, I just wanted to have the routes/stops noted in advance! Thanks
So I am currently staying at a hotel in Itabashi off of the train station, and am a bit stuck. I got 20,000 yen out at the airport when I arrived, but now after arriving at my hotel I realized that none of the ATMs around here accept my debit card. I tried the 2 nearest banks off of the Ikebukuro stop, but they did not accept my card either. Right now I have 4,000 yen left of my 20,000 and I am saving it for a train ticket to wherever I can get some more cash. Can someone tell me a place to go where I can get some money out? I can't even afford the train back to the airport right now. I know that my card works and is active because I have been using it at the 7-11 to buy rice balls and beer. Thanks!
Hi, I will be travelling to Japan from 26th Jul for 10 days with my wife and a 7 yr old son. If you can pls let me know:
(i) Is the summertime very hot ? I have read weather charts but it's difficult to gauge the actual feel just looking at the temperature. Is it very humid ? Does it also rain a lot and does that spoil your sightseeing ?
(ii) I will stay probably 5 days in Tokyo and 4 days in Kyoto and the last day back to Tokyo. I will most likely travel by Shinkasen. Do these trains allow big pieces of luggage (I mean tourist size suitcases) to be carried onboard ?
(iii) Are taxis easily available from Shinkasen stations to hotels in Kyoto ?
Many thanks
Hello, I am coming to Tokyo this month, I have one afternoon free, and would like to know the biggest Japanese bookstore Kinokuniya in Tokyo? and the closest train station?\

Hi All, I am planning a trip to Japan and my travel agent, Flight Centre HK suggested that I get the Japan Rail Pass. As I am flexible with cities and time, what would be the best option if I am starting off in Tokyo. This will be my first time in Japan and budget isn't a big thing. I am just very interested to do train travel. Will likely be going in June. Looking forward to your insight!
Hi I know I have too many questions..
Does anyone know what the Odaiba Island will be exhibiting this August? I know two years ago it had the ship from Onepiece, Thousand Sunny. Does anyone have any idea where this ship exhibition has gone??
Also, 'cos I don't want to keep making new threads, does anyone know if any Jrockers are touring Tokyo this August? (Or Osaka)?
My family and I would like to relocate for a month, sometime in the next 1yr, to Tokyo. No major reason except to expose our kids to cultures other than US. Any recommendations on apartments or hotels or other living spaces while we're there?
Hi,

Using all the normal search engines the cheapest one-way flight from Japan to Honolulu seems to be about 650 euros. Is there any "secret" source of cheap flights I may have missed?
I've been finding it hard to find any centralised activities going on for the Bon Festival this August. And any I do find, is in Japanese :( Can someone tell me any precise locations and times for the Bon Festival in Tokyo this year? Would be much appreciated!
I'm in Tokyo Narita Airport right now, & thinking of buying back this confection called "Tokyo Banana".
Our daily temperature here in Singapore hovers at 34°C; once I'm back home, must "Tokyo Banana" be kept refrigerated, or is it safe if kept in the open for a few days ?
I ask 'cos I wanna buy for my friends to enjoy, but I'm afraid of it going bad if kept at room temperature (34°C) for 3 days b4 I see my friends. Unfortunately, everything on the box is written in Japanese, & the staff hete don't seem to understand my question.
Thanks in advance for any information.
How much is the Airport Limousine Bus from Narita to Tokyo Metropolitan ?
Is there also a pick-up service at my hotel, when I need to get to Narita for my flight back ?
Hi, this is my 1st trip to Tokyo, so I've a couple of questions.
(1) How do I get from my hotel, Tokyo Metropolitan,in Ikekoburo, to this Tsukiji Fish Market place ? Is there a recommended time to be there daily ?
(2) I'd like to do day trips => 1 day to Kyoto & 1 day to Yokohama. How do I do this economically, & how much would coach/train tickets cost ? How long by train from Tokyo to Kyoto & also from Tokyo to Yokohama ? What time are the last trains from Kyoto & Yokohama back to Tokyo ?
(2) Where are the nice jazz clubs in Tokyo ? How would I get there from Ikekoburo ? How much do beers, wines or whiskeys there cost ? Is there a dress code ?
Really appreciate any advice given by experienced VT members.
Thanks so much in advance. :)
Just wondering if dressing for an evening out is business dress? Like what you might see people out in manhattan during the week after work? Thanks!

Any input on using SGG guides? I've heard pro and con, but professional guides are prohibitively expensive. I"ll be in Tokyo the middle of May.
I don't want to go up inside Tokyo Tower but would like to get a good photo of it at night. Where is the best place to take a photo where there is a good view of the Tower?
Thanks in advance!
What youth hostel is near Tsukiji Fish Market
I am from Singapore and will be going on a short vacation to Tokyo from 14th to 21st April 2013, I am aware that it is now spring and according to the weather forecast found on most sites, the temperature may vary between 21 to 10 degree celsius and may get a little chilly when night falls. I don't know how accurate the information is, hence I would need help if somebody can tell me if that is really going to be the temperature that I will experiencing when I am there. I am not very used to cold countries so I have no idea how cold the minimum temperature is going to feel like, would an overcoat be more appropriate or is it too thick? Also, I will be there with a friend, it is both our first time to Japan. We will be roaming around on our own. Is it going to be easy to get around while we are there? Please suggest some top picks places of attractions that we can visit. Thank you.
Where can I see a bunch of cherry blossoms in full bloom near Tokyo around 8th or 9th of April?
I will be arriving in Tokyo on the 8th, as I read here it will be too late for Tokyo itself or is there still a chance to get the sakura snowing down on me in Chiba or elsewhere in Tokyo (planned these days long ahead and now I will miss the blossom again due to earlier bloom, so please help me find a spot to see the sakura bloom.
I can't go too far as I have to be back in Tokyo on the 9th in the evening, flying back the next day.
Is there a park in Nikko (I have been thinking of going there since) with lots of trees, will it be the same as the parks in Tokyo with hundreds of trees? Or anywhere else close by Tokyo? Which place do you recommend for a 24hour trip max?
Many thanks
First time in Tokyo, will stay 5 days. Have bookings both in Celestine Hotel and Park Hotel Tokyo, both in Minato. Which hotel is easier to reach from Narita (need train+metro anyway?). Any difference when going out in the city for exploring Tokyo. Any difference when going to eg. Ueno, one easier than the other. Legs OK, do not mind walking a mile or 2
Which shrines in Tokyo are most worth seeing?
We will be staying in Tokyo for 10 days, how does one acquire train tickets? Is there such a thing as a weekly pass that serves all lines?
What's the best Tokyo department store for browsing in Ginza, Shinjuku, or Shibuya? Not shopping for anything in particular, just want to visit one of these mega-department stores to browse and want to visit one with a nice food hall. I've heard good things about Isetan, Matsuya Ginza, Mitsukoshi, Seibu, Takashimaya, and others but my time in Tokyo is limited and I know these stores are huge-monous (7+ floors??) so I'd like to narrow it down to just one. Thanks in advance!
Any possibility of seeing them bloom at the tail end anywhere in Tokyo at that time? I know it's a little late but just wondering if they will all be gome by then... April 15th give or take a day or two...
Hello,

Are there any near Kaihin makuhari?
Should there be any cause for concern for visitors of Tokyo about the radiation that spilled over from the Fukushima disaster a few years back?
I will be arriving Tokyo on 26th March at 4.55pm in Narita and will be leaving back to KL via Haneeda on 27th March 11.55pm. Since i will be travelling from different airport, what would be the best hotel recommendation. Any recommendation on things to do on 26th March night and whole day on 27th March?
Thanks a lot for all the help.
