    • Where to stay on LONG trips to Whistler

      Whistler Apr 27, 2013 at 10:42 AM

Thinking of planning a 1 - 2 month trip to Whistler and was wondering if there are any places to stay long term and what my best options for long term lodging would be.

Was also thinking about splitting up some of that time in Vancouver and am curious about travel to/from Whistler and Vancouver.

      Thanks!!

      Butchart Gardens in a Day

Vancouver Island May 11, 2013 at 6:32 PM

We are planning a RV trip to BC this summer and want to go to Butchart Gardens. We will be taking a ferry from Anacortes, WA and want to make sure we will have enough time to see the gardens with travel time included. We have to small dogs that would be staying behind for the day or perhaps put into a kennel if we need more time. Would it be more economical and better to take our car or take a bus/cab or rent a car on the island? Can we do it in a day? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

    • West canada on a shoe string with a 4 year old?

Vancouver Island May 7, 2013 at 8:20 AM

Hi, my husband, our 4 year old daughter and myself are thinking about a trip to west Canada (from Ireland). We teach so have July and most of August off work. Although we have loads of time, we would be doing it on a shoe string!! Would like to know what people think; should we a) just focus on Vancouver and Vancouver Island (b) focus on the Rockies © try to do both - although I don't think we could afford it all at once!
We really want to get the 'real Canada' outdoorsy feel and would be staying in hostels (hopefully there are child-friendly ones about!!) any advice/opinions on what we should/could do?

"Odd" Trinket Shops and Inexpensive boat rides

      Vancouver May 8, 2013 at 4:45 PM

Can anyone give me some suggestions on these? Any odd shops that have unique pop culture gift items, vintage or modern -not the run of the mill travel souvenirs? Also, any cool boat rides to Vancover Island someone has taken? It doesn't have to be too long, like a cruise- just something about 20 Can dollars or fewer.

    • Grouse Mountain or Cypress - Capilano Bridge or Lynn Canyon

      Vancouver May 18, 2013 at 9:38 AM

We are 2 couples (in our 60s) and will be in Vancouver for 3 nights next week. We plan to rent a car for one day (weather permitting) for some sightseeing outside of where we stay (which is downtown Vancouver). Originally we planned to go to Capilano park and Grouse mountain - both require an entrance fee of roughly $30 each. After some additional reviews, we learn of the Cypress mountain and Lynn Canyon. Not only admission to the latter is free, both sites offer what we were interested in seeing (a suspension bridge and the view of Vancouver). Could we skip Capilano and Grouse to save money?? while we try to save, we do not want to miss anything and would be happy to pay any fees to maximize our trip experience

by michelleava Online Now Sep 16, 2010 at 4:53 PM

I will be in tofino oct 4 -8 and want to see bears. Is it too late in the year to see them in Clayoquot sound or barkley sound/ Broken islands? I was going to take one of the boat tours. I have been told they go upstream, so if this is the case, where could i see them? Also, is it a good time of year to see seals and sealions and whales?

    • driving one way to Vancouver Island

by maureenmc1 Online Now Jan 18, 2010 at 1:21 PM

We're returning to Vancouver Island and would like to try flying to Tofino this time to somewhat shorten the long travel day from eastern USA. We still want to drive back to Vancouver International because the drive is so beautiful, but can't seem to find a car rental willing to do a one way even with a surcharge. Someone must have done this before, haven't they?

      Tofino's weather/seasons/birdwatching and Botanical Bay

by jgertz Online Now Aug 11, 2006 at 11:47 AM

Good afternoon! I am planning to take my elderly mother, who is an avid birdwatcher to the west coast of Vancouver Island, either in October or next March or April. I want to avoid the high season prices and the crowds. I was in coastal British Columbia a couple of years ago in late October, but it was VERY rainy. I know how variable the weather can be in that region and the rain isn't a problem for me, but older folks get cold and cranky. Is early October a better time than March or early April for the drizzly wets? I was to Port Renfrew and Botanical Bay much further south and to me that was as close to paradise as I have ever experienced. Is Tofino and the Long Beach area that beautiful? Any suggestions? Thanks a million! jay

    • Accomodation for 10 and surfing rental deals?

by Catherine_C Online Now Mar 18, 2006 at 11:11 PM

Hi there, I'm looking to accomodate up to 10 people in Tofino. I'm invisioning a cabin with a kitchen and fireplace. Looking to stay for 3-4 nights in late August/September 2006. Doesn't need to be posh, just clean. I'm thinking30-60/per person per night- if that's possible. We will be surfing during those days. Are you aware of any surfing companies that offer deals for groups of 8-10 people (I'm thinking 1 class on the first day and 2-3 days of rental)? Thank you kindly for your help! Catherine

However, I was wondering if there is any place in Tofino or close by where we can camp right by the sea on a beach. Any comments/help is highly appreciated. Aroh
