      Hakone Yumoto to Miyanoshita

      Hakone May 28, 2015 at 11:34 PM

On my final day in Hakone I plan to c/out from my ryokan (Hoeiso) and travel from Hakone Yumoto to lunch at Iroriya which is near Sokokura. I read that I should take the "Hakone-machi line" bus from Hakone Yumoto Station (Bus H), to "Sokokura". Then walk for 5 minutes. Map of bus stop only shows "Kami-Sokokura" though..
      Is it the same stop?
Iroriya: Local name いろり家. Local address 〒250-0404宮ノ下296

This bus from Hakone Yumoto passes Miyanoshita Station. Would it be faster to grab the train from Hakone-Yumoto Station to Miyanoshita Station then the bus rather than sit on the bus all the way from Hakone-Yumoto Station?

    • osaka - kyoto - nara - kyoto

      Osaka May 29, 2015 at 11:45 AM

      Hi!
I am planning my itinerary for travels from tokyo - osaka - kyoto - nara - kyoto - tokyo.
As of now, i am considering the overnight express bus from tokyo to osaka and from kyoto to tokyo as i dont mind the long travelling hours and it will save me alot more than getting the JR pass.
I'm just wondering for travelling within osaka to kyoto/nara, should i get the kansai pass or any other passes?

places i might want to visit in osaka (2 days):

      - Tenjinbashisuji Shoping arcade
      - Sennichimae Donguyasuji Shopping Arcade
      - Kuromon Market

the places i might want to visit in kyoto (1.5 days):
      - Fushimi Inari
      - Kinkaku-ji Temple
      - Nishiki Market Alley
      - Arashiyama Bamboo Grove (maybe)
      - Gion

the places i might want to visit in nara (day trip):
      - Nara park
      -Todai-ji Temple

      Thank you in advance!

      Odawara Castle

      Odawara May 4, 2015 at 3:06 AM

I'll be visiting Odawara Castle on Oct 31 (Saturday) on my way from Hakone Yumoto to Shinjuku. I need some clarification please..

      1. I know that the castle closes at 5pm. Is this just for the entrance into the castle building or the ground as well? I would like to hang around the castle ground until twilight for an opportunity to take photo of the castle during the 'blue' hour. Wondering if the ground remains opened after 5pm?

      2. What time is twilight at the end of October?

      3. I plan to ride the Odakyu Romancecar back to Shinjuku. Can I purchase the Romancecar from Hakone Yumoto to Shinjuku but break the journey and jump off for a few hours at Odawara? Or I need to go from Hakone Yumoto by Hakone Tozan Railway to Odawara and board the Romancecar from Odawara to Shinjuku?

      4. Any recommendation for dinner option near the Odawara Station?

      Tq! Mel

Quaint Onsen Town 2-3 hours from Tokyo?

      Japan May 30, 2015 at 9:36 PM

I plan to do a 2 night 3 days trip to Hakone, doing the loop from Gora to Hakone Yumoto and staying in 2 separate ryokans. This will be October 29-31. Now I read that Owakudani and the ropeway are close due to risk of small volcanic eruption.

In case the situation doesn't clear by my trip date, would anyone be able to recommend a 2 nights side trip out of tokyo to an attractive onsen town with preferably some attractions like canal/stream, waterfalls, quaint shops.. Some place with a traditional and quaint vibe like Kinosaki Onsen.. I don't like it too crammed with modern tall brick buildings. Thus, are not too keen on Kusatsu Onsen.
Not too far, max 2-3 hours by non Shinkansen

Hakone Tozan Bus "K" from Moto Hakone-ko to Kuzuhara

      Hakone May 27, 2015 at 5:20 AM

I will be doing the Hakone Loop from Gora to Owakidani, Lake Ashi, Motohakone then to Hoeiso Ryokan near Hakone Yumoto. This will be on the 30th of October (Friday). I read that the Hakone Tozan Bus "K" passes the ryokan (Bus stop - Kuzuhara) on its way from Moto Hakone-ko to Hakone Yumoto.

      1. Would anyone be able to provide the time-table for Line "K" from Moto Hakone'ko to Kuzuhara please?
      2. Would you know how long will this journey between Moto Hakone-ko to Kuzuhara takes?

I read that there is an express bus Line "R" which even though doesnt't pass Kuzuhara on its way to Hakone Yomoto, but being express, will be fast. However, this only operates on weekends and holidays?

Tengu Izakaya branch at Tennozu Isle/Shinagawa

      Shinagawa May 15, 2015 at 10:07 AM

I've been to Tengu Izakaya branch at Shinjuku Minami Guchi and quite like it. I read that there are many branches but I can't find the store locator. Would like to find one near my hotel which is located at Tennozu Isle. I even read somewhere that there is a branch at Shinagawa. However, not a detailed description of the exact location.

Would anyone be able to help, please?

I've read the station has a few lockers but I was wondering about a backup plan if they are all full, other than forwarding luggage.
Any ideas? So far my brother only has "leaving cases around so they get taken into lost property and then collecting them later". Inventive but risky.

Hi all - I've booked a place to stay while climbing Mt Fuji (8th Station). So far a combination of bad high-school Japanese has got me through - but I'm a little stumped with the translation on one bit of the site. I think it is talking about being quiet for those who want to sleep - but I just want to make sure it doesn't prohibit us from getting up at 1am to start the trek for the top.

      3 Week Itinerary

      Japan May 17, 2015 at 8:04 PM

Hi There. We are trying to lock down our 3 week holiday itinerary for Japan. We love food, mixing with the locals and the culture and seeing the different "styles" of any country we visit. This is what we are thinking:
5 Nights in Tokoyo (with perhaps days trips to Hakone / Yokohama)
      3 Nights Takayama + 3 Nights Kanazawa + 3 Nights Kyoto + 3 Nights Osaka + 1 Night Koyosan (Buddhist Temple Stay) + 3 Nights Kobe
I dont like to stay anywhere for less than 3 nights as we like to soak up the atmosphere and culture of a place
Id love your thoughts on this current itinerary (proas / cons) or any alternate suggestions
      Thanks very much!

10 days in Japan for the first time

      Japan May 18, 2015 at 8:43 AM

we plan to visit Japan for the first time, most probably in late september for 10 full days but I'm confused a)how to create a good itinerary and b)how not to break the bank (I know japan is expensive so any reliable budget advise is highly appreciated)
      so,
1)high on my list are TOKYO, KYOTO, NARA, HIROSHIMA, should we add more to those or 10 days is very pushing?
how to do this starting from Osaka?
2)we're flying into OSAKA(KIX, Kansai Intl) and fly out from TOKYO(NRT, Narita)
does this make any sense or should we fly in/out from the same city?
3)are those cities connected by the fast train?
4)should we buy a Japan Rail Pass? it costs 29,110 yen (more than 210euro) for 7days. Or single tickets for train/buses will be cheaper for us?

What about withdrawing from ATMs? I don't want to bring so much cash. Can I also use a debit card in paying for hotel, etc?

Also, there is (according to my link) a train that covers 80KM in 12 minutes. Is that for real?

Nasu-Shiobara Scenic Area VS Ryuokyo Scenic Area

      Tochigi-ken Nov 1, 2010 at 1:42 PM

I will be in Utsunomiya on November 13 and I have about 8 hrs to explore. I've already been to Nikko in the past, so I was contemplating either of those two scenic areas listed above. My plan is to leave Tokyo in the morning on the train, explore ONE of those sites, then take the train to Utsunomiya by 5pm. So, looking at the train schedules, it seems easy enough to get to each station, but how is the scenic areas from each one? Also, on November 13, will there still be enough autumn color to enjoy at each of these places? I plan to photograph some waterfalls and pathways, so which is better? Thanks!

Tobu World/ monkey mountains bus service

      Nikko May 12, 2010 at 3:10 AM

      Hi

The Nikko part of our Japan trip is coming together,

but we were looking at doing Tobu World and the kinugawa hot springs ropeway/monkey mountains.
The only information that we can find is that monkey mountain is about a 30 minute walk from kinugawa Onsen Station. If we do Tobu World first this will make it a 45 minute walk, which could be painful with a 3 year old.
We cannot find any bus information to get between the two places.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

      Nikko Oct 2, 2009 at 11:21 AM

I'm arriving in Nikko for 4 days in late October from Utsunomiya, not Tokyo. Can I get an All-Nikko pass to use the unlimited bus rides and just the one-way train back to Tokyo, or would Tobu invalidate my pass if I don't start out from their Asakusa station?

If I can do this, can I obtain all the necessary pass validations either over the internet or IN Nikko, since I will NOT be going to Tokyo before Nikko. (Am going straight from Narita by bus to Utsunomiya.)

Does it make sense to rent a car for a day or two in Nikko instead of going by buses to onsens and places to see? Will I have to pay for parking at each place? How much?

How much does bus cost? Is there such thing as an unlimited day bus pass?

how do you get there from Nikko? Is it worth it? Is it doable in a day?
      Any info is highly appreciated!
      thanks

      Hi,

Can someone who had been One More Time Pension - Nikko tell me how far it is from JR station and the temples?
Can we take a bus from JR station to this pension or do we have to take taxi? If so, any idea about the cost?
Also, how can we access to the temple area from this pension?
By viewing their web-site, we like their rooms but need to know how we can access to and from JR station and the temple area.
Thank you so much for your advise.

I will be getting a Japan Rail Pass and I was just wondering if it would be better to buy the World Heritage Pass for Nikko, or do it on your own using the Japan Railpass to get there and paying for individual tickets at sites?
