I am thinking about doing the Halong Bay cruise independently (in November). I would take a bus from Hanoi on early morning and look for a boat in Halong City myself (there will be 4 of us). Is this doable? Will the prices be any lower? More chance to bargain? How much are the actual prices on a budget (but still in reasonable conditions). Looking at the online offers for 1n/2d tour I would have to pay around 200 USD per person. This is a bit too high for my budget. How much will it be if we book from Hanoi? How much will it be if we book in Halong? How much would a private boat cost? Can you get a private boat for 4 people for 1 night at all? Thanks for anyfeedback
I don´t think it will be cheaper if you do it by youself, anything with boats is cheaper by a tour but you can find 2 day 1 night tours for 85 (Sinhcafe is a reliable company) maybe even cheaper if you look around in Hanoi. sinhcafetravel.com.vn/vietna...

Of course you can do it but I don't think that you will be offerred a cheaper price. It is because you will find a better price from a travel agency than from a cruise company it self. You can take a look here to find a list of boat and price for you. http://hanoitohalong.com/
