Hi all, I'm new on this site.. Could anyone please me give some information on trekking tours in Tibet? We are starting in Beijing, we want to take the train to Lahsa and start our hiking from there and possibly finish somewhere in Nepal. We know that we need a special permit to go to Tibet but is it better/cheaper to organize this tour from Beijing or from here in Ottawa Canada? And does anyone know the approximate cost of the tours? From what I have been reading it looks a lot cheaper to wing it straight from Nepal but our plain tickets are already purchased from Beijing returning from Delhi. Also, we were told from our traveling agency that we need an ongoing transportation proof to exit China to show customs arriving at the airport, any advice on this question too? Thanking you in advance for your reply.
You might try China Tours International Inc,375 Somerset St W Ottawa Canada. We dealt with them to set up our trip to Tibet. They handled some potentially difficult issues for us in getting the permits for Tibet and Mt Everest region. This was 7 years ago and the Chinese government was pretty touchy then, but we understand things have tightened up even more nive. When we looked at going back 2 years ago, we were flatly told no; Tibet was closed to foreigners. When we went (there were two of us) we had to have an officially authorized itinerary, a guide and driver. One question for you; as your home page does not give any information about you. Have you been at altitude before? The reason I ask is that your plan sounds rather ambitious; you give no indication that you are considering any sort of reasonably acclimatization. You are looking at altitudes starting at 3500m and getting well over 5000m. There are some medical issues of being at altitude that need to be considered too.

Hi Everyone: I'm from Toronto and I'm new to this site. I'm planning a trip to India and Tibet trip from Kathmandu. I would like to go to all major cities, the most beautiful lak Yamdrok, and Mt. Everest Base, and if possible Mt. Kailash. For Mt. Everest and the few major cities I expect to spend 2-3 weeks, but I would rather include Mt. Kailash into my itinerary and spend 1 month in Tibet. It's difficutl to find people who want to same, so I will try to be more flexible. I know that everyone wants to see Lhasa,Shigatse, Gyantse, and Mt. Everest. If any Canadians plan trip to Tibet between September and November please contact me. I would prefer people from Toronto so that we could meet and plan the details. Vicki

Hi, It's Vicki again Could you tell me please how many of you are in your group? I plan my trip in Tibet for September or October, but it's not easy to find a group of 5 who wants the same. I'm buying a round flight ticket from Toronto to Mumbay. From Mumbay I plan to travel to Delhi and then to Kathmandu. However, I's still flexible and I could joing you in Beijing so that we could take a train to Lhasa together. I guess that you want to go from Lhasa to Shigatse and Gyantse, and then to Mt. Everest Base. I hope that we would be able to find a 2 week trip that covers all of this for approximately1,500 to 2,000. Why don't you tell me more about your group, what you want to see in Tibet, and how much you plan to spend? I'm wandering if it's possible for us to joing in Beijing, enter Lhasa by train together, have short trip to all major cities and the most beautiful lake Yamdrok, and then everyone could do whatever they wanted. I'm wandering if it's possible that I could separate from you after a week or two and join some other trip. You live in Ottawa and I see that someone gave you the address of a relaiable travel agency. Why don't you simply contact them and and if it's possible for a group to enter Tibet together for a short trip and then separate at some point. I don't think that we have to exit Tibet together. Vicki
