Hi to everybody, in the last week of april and first of mai i am going to visit Tibet. A tourism agency offered me an air ticket Chengdu-Lhasa-Chengdu + legal Tibet permit(TTB)at the price of 3600 RMB (360 Euros) ... somebody knows if is a good price for it? I would like to visit in indipendent way Gyantse and Shigatse; somewhere i read i need special permits, somewhere i read it is easy to visit these towns alone...who knows to help me? The same agency offered me a tour at the price of 200 Euros: D1 Lhasa - gyantse D2 Gyantse - Shigatse D3 Shigatse - Tingri D4 Tingri - EbC - Latse D5 Latse - lhasa somebody knows if the price is good? thank you for your help
Y3600 isn't too bad, but you can probably find it for a little cheaper in Cehngdu from places like Sim's Cozy Guesthouse (www.gogosc.com) or Mix's Guesthouse (www.donkey-pal.com). Currently a roundtrip ticket from Chengdu to Lhasa with tax is Y2660 and a permit from Sim's is around Y400. It is also possible to find discounts on tickets to Lhasa of up to 60% which would save you even more money. kekexili.typepad.com

thank you very much !!! and what about visit Gyantse and Shigatse in an indipendent way (without a tour)? is it possible ? somewhere i read i can visit these towns and monasteries alone with the right permit, somewhere i read that it isnt possible to find permits without a tour ... what do you suggest?
