    • 4th of July

      Austin Apr 25, 2013 at 5:58 PM

Hello, Austin folks! We are going to be in town over the 4th of July. What's the best bet for fireworks? Also, we'll be staying downtown because our 16-yr-old son is going to a gaming thing at the Convention Center. Do we need a car to see the best that Austin has to offer? We'll be there from the 3rd to the 9th.

Thanks for any info and recommendations!

Hi, we are relocating to Houston in the next few months and are looking at areas that have great schools and nice neighborhoods with low crime. Looking heavily at Friendswood or possible Mont Belvieu area. What can you tell me about the towns and schools? Thanks!

      Texas Apr 23, 2013 at 8:21 AM

      Hi,

My sister and I are planning a trip across the States in July and Texas is a must see for us.

We fly into Austin, have 3 days to explore and then fly out of San Antonio. We know we haven't got much time, but were just wondering if anybody had any advice on whether we should focus out trip in only Austin & San Antonio or hire a car for 2 days and explore the little towns in-between?

Also, we are are in Texas for the 4th July, any advice about where best to celebrate this day between the 2 cities or the smaller surrounding towns?

We would really appreciate any help anyone can offer.

What section of the city to live in?

San Antonio Mar 26, 2013 at 4:03 PM

I have been interested in having a holiday townhome or condo in San Antonio and don't know that much about residential living in the city or even within 10 miles of city center. It would not be my permanent home unless I fell in love with the Texan hospitality. What section would be desirable as a home away from home. Thanks in advance to any locals that may help. :-)

    • road trip, Dallas, Galveston, New Orleans, what to do?

      Texas Mar 15, 2013 at 7:15 PM

Well it is my spring break and a friend and I (guy and a girl) would love to do a small road trip, from Dallas to Galveston Beach, spend about 2 or 3 days there then head toward New Orleans, I have been to Galveston many times but never for the reasons we are going now. We want to have fun, enjoy night life, bars, restaurants, sights, nothing too family friendly, for example no museums or national parks that have kids, we want more of the young 20's side of the experience. Also what places are a must in New Orleans or Baton Rouge Louisiana.

the trip would be from Monday to Saturday.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated any advice for read trips as well!

      thank you!

      Greyhound Express vs Megabus

      Dallas Mar 3, 2013 at 2:20 PM

      Hello,
I will be in Dallas soon for a convention, and then want to travel to Austin from Dallas.

I have been reading about both Megabus and Greyhound Express, but haven't found a comparison. I think I have to pay for another ticket if I travel on Megabus with two bags.

Any insights you can contribute would be most welcome.

      Thanks,
      Patti

      Arlington Mar 2, 2013 at 12:13 PM

Spotcrime website lists lots of crime in Arlington ranging from theft, assault, burglary, armed robbery etc.. Just on 28th Feb2013 there has been about 30 such crimes. Which place will be good to live? Should I look for rentals outside of Arlington? I am moving to Arlington and I need a safe place to live with my family, good school for kids, good neighborhood, good shops etc. without worrying for crime. Please suggest.

We're coming down to do SeaWorld in March with our 4 kids. Will we want to swim at SeaWorld or at the hotel in March? Our last trip was mid-June and too hot for us. But I know my kids will be bummed if it's too cold to swim. We could change our trip to early May if we need to.

Transportation from Katy to George Bush International Airport????

      Houston Jan 12, 2013 at 8:19 PM

12 Jan. 2013 Hello VT er, We are visiting people from Katy and on the day we fly back, our host is unavailable able to drive us to the airport. Does anyone have good suggestion getting to the International George Bush Airportt? We will be coming from Katy, Texas ( north Katy, near Cooperfield). We realized on our first day here in Texas, how huge and vast is Texas, one needs a vehicle otherwise you can't get anywhere. Texas has so much to offer to tourists. Its a very attractive place to visit, but again, you need your vehicle.. Many thanks for any suggestions getting to International George Bush Airport. Listenandlearn.

    • Working Ranch Stay

      Texas Jan 12, 2013 at 1:25 AM

Searching for a recommendation . Considering a ranch stay either in Texas's Hill Country or the far west, Big Bend, Alpine area. My budget does not extend to luxury. As a single traveller I would be far more happy with a bunkhouse stay. The idea is to have the opportunity to help out, be able to photograph the working ranch , hiking opportunities. Never been on a horse in my life so novice riding lessons. Enjoys shooting sports so perhaps an opportunity to shoot would be great. So any recommendations for a working ranch, basic rather than a resort experience. Thanks
