Need travel partner - free style

      Luxor May 12, 2013 at 6:42 PM

I just need someone to go to Luxor with, as my husband doesn't want me to go alone. We went in Jan. so he imagines the hassle I may get. So I need someone that wants to do their own thing like I want to, and just meet up for major stuff and to have someone as a source of help. I have Egyptian friends there and I know I will be fine, but it will reassure my husband if I get a travel partner. I'm interested in June. I'm not talking about sharing a hotel room.

      Hi,

I am planning to backpack in Egypt sometime this November with my fiance. Please give me any details that would help me. Expenses. Food. Warnings. Places to visit. how many days would be required to cover Cairo, Alexandria, Hurghada and Aswan. Do I need to take the help of a local travel agency. Last year we backpacked through central and Southern Sri Lanka for 11 days without the help of any travel agency. Is this possible in Cairo? Please give me some information on the above and any additional information would be really helpful.

So, we are going to Sharm around the 1st of June. I'm Egyptian but I don't live there so I'm not too used to it although I've been to Sharm every summer. What's the BEST resort in sharm? in terms of clubs/bars, people and cleanliness.

I was considering sunrise or Hilton sharks bay or the ritz but I need a place where it's lively, clean and not too expensive. Any suggestions?

PS. If anyone is around at that time, it would be nice to chill, my brother and I can show you around.

      Hurghada May 6, 2013 at 2:34 AM

I have lived here for many years and have a villa and a flat here. I lve here about 7 months of the year. I am aged 70 and in reasonable health, but with some pre existing conditions (high blood pressure for which I am on medication and some other (small) things . I am British and do not have medical insurance because the cost would be prohibitive and the insurance company would never pay up anyway. I have had to seek medical help on a couple of occasions. Once when i cut my leg and the other time for a small infection (from sea water) in my ear
I went to El Gouna Hospital and initially they wanted to charge me 50 Euros for a consultation only. When I showed my villa contract to them , the cost was promptly reduced to 60LE
Can anyone advise me authoritatively about sat (God forbid), if i had a heart attack or suffered a broken leg and had to be carted off to hospital. Are the fees they charge discretionary? Would I have to sign something or produce my bank card for a swingeing payment to be made before I would be stabilised ?
Is there an insurance scheme in this country which is fairly honest, reliable and not cost prohibitive or can one pay into a hospital scheme where accidents and emergencies are covered?

I was thinking of going to Abu Simbel on the bus (convoy) but want to spend the night. Some of the posting say they will make you go back on the next bus. How do you avoid this? Why is there a need for a police convoy? (I must be a little out of touch with the news) Also one posting stated they won't go alone as a women Why? I will be traveling with with my two boys (13 and 11) and will dress modestly, avoid the eyes of men etc. Any thoughts?

by ComandanteG Online Now Mar 27, 2006 at 10:55 AM

We are planning to take the train from CAI to ASW and then going to ABS. This will be in August, so it should be very hot. I found there are two ways, or plain or bus. Of course bus should be the cheapest. I am looking for advise. Perhaps if we arrive by train we may loose the bus or the flight, or perhaps is too hot to go by bus, or perhaps train+bus we will get too tired to see monuments.

      Day trip to Abu Simbel

by sneakye Online Now Mar 10, 2006 at 5:59 PM

My friend and I were not originally planning to go to Abu Simbel - we are in Egypt for seven days - and then we have to transfer back to london so we can fly home to sydney. (we're getting a london return ticket and doing europe and egypt) I was wondering if it would be possible to do Abu Simbel as a day trip. Unfortunatly we are not staying in Aswan (and it's really annoying that you can't fly directly from Luxor) We are in Cairo for 4 days and Luxor for 3. We don't want to travel by road - we want to fly. Do you think that it's probably insane to try and do Abu Simbel in that time or do you think it could be possible. Emma

by cyankov Online Now Mar 21, 2005 at 1:11 PM

I will be on an 8-day tour of Egypt with a Nile cruise included and there is an option for290 to fly to Abu Simbel from Cairo instead of directly to Aswan, to visit the temple and then fly to Aswan that night to meet back up with the tour group. Is it worth the price? If we didn't do that, we would be "taking a leisurely sailing trip on a felucca passing the Lord Kitchener's Botanical Garden and the Aga Khan Mausoleum." Doesn't sound as if we go in, just pass. Not sure if that sounds very exciting or worthwhile to spend the day?? Should we spring for the optional trip? Thanks for your advise in advance!
