Can you recommend company for 1 day excursion in Tehran and hotel booking?

by mcforner Online Now Apr 24, 2011 at 9:54 AM

We will be in Tehran for 2 nights and are looking for a company who can offer us a 1 day excursion tour of Tehran, book our hotel and transfers to and from the airport. Can anyone recommend a company who could organise this? Any suggestions for a good and safe hotel? Other than the main museums, what else should we not miss seeing? Thanks for any help

The Laleh and the Ferdowsi Grand are the two hotels which tourists usually end up in i.e. are booked into. The Laleh is the old Intercontinental and perfectly fine and in a good location. Both have receptions with money exchanges and English-speaking personnel. Restaurants are okay. The Carpet Museum is interesting. Just up the road from the Laleh. Round the back of the Carpet Museum i.e. keep on going round the corner, there is a little market, with interesting displays of handicrafts, foods and so on. Worth a look. If your tour organiser is amenable, ask to go into the area where the better-off live - it will quite open your eyes to another aspect of Iran life!

The Green Palace in the S'ad-Abad Palace complex in the northern sector of the city is interesting. There are several palaces in the grounds of the complex, all put to various uses these days but the Green Palace was used by the Shah as a summer residence and is surprisingly small and intimate in scale, if not in decor. The Reza Abassi Museum is a very fine, small, privately run museum with an excellent collection that gives a good overview of Iran's historical periods. With only one day, you won't have time to hit any more than the main sights but you should consider taking a taxi one evening and going up to the teahouses outside Tehran at Darband in the mountains. They're where Tehrani's love to go and relax.

The Jewelry Museum is a must. Try and see the Archeological Museum and also Shah's White House. I like the Azadi Tower Complex. I recommend a company called Let's Go Iran. They will take good care of you! I have used them twice. Laleh Hotel is popular and secure. Also Ferdosi Hotel is good and I just stayed at a new one, very nice moderately priced called Saina. Very good management.

I stayed at the 1 1/2 year old Espinas in Tehran, which is supposedly the nicest hotel in Tehran. Frankly, I'm used to five star hotels all over the world and no hotel in Iran will come close. Lots to see in Tehran: Crown jewel museum in a bank - but only open on certain days of the week Niavaran palace - one of Shah's palaces Sadabad palace - another Shah palace Carpet museum Khomeini mausoleum, close to the international airport, alth still under some construction Azadi monument and square among other things Enjoy. Tehran and all of Iran is very enjoyable, the people are friendly and lovely. Pay no attention to the American media portrayal of Iran. I have travelled extensively around the world to countries that the American media speaks poorly of - Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, Syria, Lebanon, etc. All were interesting and the people were lovely. Those countries are safer than at home in Los Angeles.
