We are currently in Bakersfield traveling in a motorhome. We do not like taking the grapevine, the Tehapachi's do not seem as steep. I'm looking for the best route. Last time we went through Palmdale and Lancaster but it seemed like city streets. Would it be better to take Hwy 58 to 395 and go down that way?
Hwy 58 to Mojave Hwy 14 to Palmdale and take Pear Blossom Hwy to the 15 south to 210 east to the 10 to PS. Except for Pear Blossom Hwy its all four lane. You will do some climbing and the Tehapachi's are just about as hard a climb as Grapevine. But the above route is the one I always took when my mom lived out in Palm Desert and it avoids a lot of the heavy traffic.

That's a good route across the Pearblossom, and if you're driving a heavy vehicle Tehachapi is much easier to pull than the Grapevine though it is a little curvier. I'm through there quite a bit and usually take 58 from Bakersfield through Mojave and pick up 395 at Four Corners straight down to 15.
