Hi, Im visiting tavira at the end of may early june and ive never been before. Im staying in the porta nova hotel..is it any good? ive read its on a hill, has this caused a problem to anyone? : S im not hiring a car..is the public transport easy to use & reliable? : ) What are the local places of interest? id particularly like to do a dolphin cruise..are they any good? any suggestions as to where is best? : D kind regards, Rachael
Certainly worth looking through the reviews written by real people abiout their stays at the hotel on Trip Advisor. There are 83 reviews. tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Revi... Also, there is a fount of knowledge about getting about using buses or trains along the Algarve and beyond on this excellent web site: thomasallen.home.sapo.pt/tra... Very nice area and lots of interest. Don't know about dolphins but maybe some of the hotel reviews can help.

I'm not sure if Tavira has dolphin watching cruises but certainly the resorts on teh western end of the Algarve eg Albufeira, Portimao and Lagos have such. However these are a long way from Tavira so it might not be feasible idea.

By the way, as far as places to stay right in Tavira town, I can from my own experience only recommend you a great... more
A Regional train does run along the coast as far as the Portuguese border on the river at Vila Real de Santo Antonio.... more
