Dear Friends, A visit to Sicily is in the plans for April, 2007. After Palermo, I plan to visit Taormina and will probably be there around April 25th. Would any of you be so kind to tell me what is open or closed, is transportation operating and are the trains running both in Sicily or to the mainland of Italy. Thank You for your kind help.
yes trains are going on april 25th for sure shops will be open in Taormina on that day, it's such a touristy place that of course they want to make money ;-) like in florece, venice and so on enjoy your holiday!

Absoutely! Apart from trains generally being late in Italy, they DO run all year round. Palermo to Taormina by train is not the simplest of journeys though and once on Sicily, buses are quicker than trains apart from along the East coast. Enjoy a touristy but beauuuuutiful town!

Good advice above Ed. The key to public transport is to relax and have optimism. The train/bus you plan to catch may be cancelled or delayed but there will be one - eventually. ...don't plan on keeping very tight schedules. have fun! de pedro

The ferry is a good way to come south but you won't see anything! For stunning scenery the train is great. more
