Hello guys. Hopefully someone will know the answer. We are going to Tampa in 3 days and would like to stay in our brand new tent for nights. But we don't know places over there where we can stop. Probably you know any places which are straight away on the beach? Olenka
Gulf Beach Campground 8862 Midnight Pass Road Sarasota, Florida 34242-2898 Local Tel: 941-349-3839 Clearwater Travel Resort 2946 Gulf To Bay Blvd. BD Clearwater, Florida 33759 800-831-1204 Tel: 727 791-0550 Fax: 727-723-2209 Perhaps a bit farther than an hour and a half is Sanibel Island off the coast of Ft. Myers. The only campground there is Periwinkle Park (941-472-1433), and it's a walk to the beach. (And to Dairy Queen.) Another beach camping area that may be farther than your desired drive is north of you near Chiefland, Shell Mound County Park (352-543-6153), which is close to a state park and 2 wildlife refuges near where the Suwannee River empties in the Gulf of Mexico.

Fort DeSoto Park. It's on a penninsula at the mouth of Tampa Bay and is regularly mentioned on one of the best beaches in the US. pinellascounty.org/park/05_F... The beach is good for more than scenic reasons. You don't want to be camping in the woods in Florida this time of year -- that is, unless donating blood to mosquitos in thousands of teeny units sounds like a good time...
