How long would it take to drive from Tehran to Takht-e Soleyman? Is it doable in a day? Are there any other ways to get there than by road? Train? Plane? Thanks
I have NEVER been to these areas in Iran but I can tell you what is written in Lonely Planet. A train will take 4 hrs from Tehran to Zanjan, there are numerous buses between the 2 ciites. From Zanjan you can higher a cab to drive you to Takhte Soliman (2hrs one way), I don't know anything beyond that. In the Book it says that Ideally you should have the day trip starting at Zanjan. Good luck

It seems that Zanjan is not a bad place after all; The town has few attractions and could be a base to visit Takhte Jamsheed and Oljedo Mausoleum.

Hi , I have not seen Takhte Soleyman yet. But I have been in Zanjan Province and have seen Soltanieh. I will go there in near future. I think the best way to go there is with a tour or with private car. When will you go there ? I will get more information soon.

Mehdy! What do you think about Zanjan and Oljedo Mausoleum? Are they worth spending a day or 2? Is a day trip possible from Tehran to Takht-e Soleyman? Thanks

Tehran to Zanjan is about 4 hours by bus. To get to Takht e Soleyman from Zanjan by public transport you need to take a minibus to Takab in Kordestan (about two hours across wonderful landscapes). From Takab, which is an unassuming but extremely friendly and hospitable small city, it's about half an hour on a small bus. (only one or two bus a day return i think so a driver from Takab would be convenient) By no means a day excursion from Tehran if you travel by public transport. The best way to do it to stay overnight in Takab and get to Takht e Soleyman in the morning and enjoy the afternoon there in the lovely scenery.

btw there's a straight road from Zanjan to Takht e Soleyman over the mountains, takes about one and half hours by car I think, so maybe you can get there in around 5 hours from Tehran if you drive.
