Hi there. We will be in Takayama on 6 and 7 Nov. We are not young and energetic so please tell us what are the must see places and must eat places. we are also budget travellers but we would like to taste the local cuisine. we love nature and we do not mind walks or hikes rather than to temple hop.so much to see and do. so little time, money and energy. PLEASE HELP! tHANK U
The old town area itself is quite small and can easily be covered in a half day. There are some interesting saki breweries that give samples which might kick start your lagging energy levels (or make you want to take a nap, one or the other). The Hida folk museum, outside of town, is worth some time. The least expensive lodging option is Minshuku Sosuke but they have communal bathrooms, just so you know.

While the Hida folk museum is interesting, you can find similar buildings in Tokyo Minka-en (with more explanations in English), so if your time is so limited, you might want to skip this part and spend more time walking around the town. The morning market, along the river, is worth 1 hour, too. And try to walk in the old town at night, everything is closed, but it is really pleasant. Hope this help, sanji
