What will happen during Oct.9-10 festival? Will there be any float parade on the street? If so, where will be the usual path/route for the parade? Where will be the best place (and when the best time) to experience the event in Takayama? If we arrive at Takayama in the early afternoon of Oct.9, will we miss something important of that morning? Our original plan is to arrive on Oct.8, but just wonder if there is any other option. Thanks for any info/advice/suggestion!
Here you go: hidanet.ne.jp/e02/ematsuri/e... The actual festival starts on the 7th but there won't be much going on until the 9th. The highlight is on the 10th so you shouldn't miss much. Just go to the northen part of the town and follow the crowds.

I was in Takyama for the festival on 14 and 15 April. The festival starts around 2pm (so you will not miss anything if arriving on 9th Oct in the morning). And if there is a night parade too on the dates you are visiting its always on the first day so 9th of October. But when you arrive at Takayama JR station just opposite the exit is the tourist office where you can get a map for the route and times of the float parade and evening parade.
