Hi. I am planning to visit Taize in June 2008 and this will be my first time in Europe. Is there a schedule/guiding tour for visitors during that period to which I can subscribe? How about accomodation? Is it better to stay outside the community or does the community has available rooms for rent.. Thanks for your help, as I am really looking forward visiting Taize this summer. Chantal
I assume you are among those meeting in Taizé for a religious gathering in June. This community is somewhat remote and very small, offering few if any services. The closest community with basic facilities is perhaps Thouars but even this location has limited services: http://www.thouars.fr/ Taizé is so small in fact I am curious as to how you plan on getting there? If you are renting a car, you can easily shuttle to cities such as Tours, Poitier, or Saumur. Many of your questions may be answered by the information available here: http://www.taize.fr/

There are two French towns called Taize. The one that has the pilgrimage site is near the larger city of Macon where you could easily find lodging. There is also lodging at Cluny although it's a small town. Tournus and Montceau-les-Mines are also possibilities. If you contact Taize ahead of time, you can stay there although you may be in a tent. They have tents and dormitories although the dorms are used mostly in winter. http://www.taize.fr/en_rubrique18.html Check Travel for transportation; nearest train station is Macon. Check Meetings for accomodation. Stay there for the whole experience. If you want more comfort, find a Logis de France nearby. http://www.logis-de-france.fr/uk/

Taizé as in the religious community? I've been there a couple of times, it is a wonderful experience! Getting there: A car is the easiest, but there is a bus service to Cluny, which has a train station. From Germany there is also a regular bus service, which may be of interest if you fly into Germany. Accomodation: For the complete experience, you sign yourself in and stay in Taizé itself. This means a bunk-bed in a dorm or sleeping in a tent.Bathrooms are outside. How much you pay is up to you, you are given the minimum - very little!- and can pay more if you want to. It also includes the meals. You are supposed to do some work. The usual stay is from Sunday to Sunday, but you can stay for just a few days, if you want to. Some time ago I decided that I'm too old for the bunk bed experience and stayed in a hotel in Cluny instead. For pictures and links read my Taizé page here on VT, I've provided some information for first timers there. You'll have a great time, I'm sure.
