    • 6D5N in Taiwan

      Taipei Dec 28, 2014 at 11:37 PM

Hello! Will be in Tw next year March. 6D seems too long for Taipei only, but too short if we would like to explore outside Taipei. Is it recommended to perhaps drop by Taichung or Tainan for a short 2D1N trip? Will it be too rush or cramped?

Want to Play Tour Guide for a Day?

      Kaohsiung Nov 26, 2014 at 8:05 AM

We are an active senior couple arriving in Kaohsiung on March 5, 2015 for just one day (cruise ship). Wondering if any locals would be willing to meet us and tour us around your city in your car, including Fokuangshan Monastary and other places you recommend, plus things 'off the beaten track.' We are experienced travelers who live in USA and Chiang Mai, Thailand. We've done this sort of thing before on VT and always worked great for all! Open to all ideas! (;>). Thanks, Bob & Fran

      Taiwan Drivers

      Taiwan Nov 23, 2014 at 10:12 AM

My daughter and I will be traveling to Taiwan in January 2015. We understand that we may be able to hire a cab or taxi driver for a day to use as a tour guide. We have several places that we are interested in seeing. For example Taroko Gorge Sun Moon Lake, Alishan Mountains and Juifen.
Have any of you ever done this before? We're looking for someone that is a safe driver, reasonable in cost, and is fluent in English. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

      Taipei 4D3N Itinerary for first-timer - Suggestions?

      Taipei Nov 4, 2014 at 7:41 PM

Hi, guys! Please help me out in my itinerary... I'm going to TW for the first time in a few weeks, and I'd like to cover most of the attractions in the city and a bit further out in 4D3N. My base will be in Ximending.

      • Day 1 - Urban Highlight**

Taoyuan International Airport early morning arrival Taipei HSR to Taipei Main Station Ximen Station - hotel drop-off luggage Tian Wai Tian Mala Hotpot lunch Ximen Red House Taipei 101 - shops & observatory Din Tai Fung dinner Ximending

      • Day 2 - Nature Trip**

Yangmingshan National Park Beitou Hot Springs Danshui Fisherman's Wharf & Lover's Bridge Danshui Night Market Shilin Night Market

      • Day 3 - Historic and Cultural**

Presidential Office Building (how to get here from Ximen Station?) pass by 2/28 Peace Park Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall; National Theater & National Concert Hall Dongmen Station - Yongkang Street Beef Noodle
Zhongxiao Fuxing station shopping district (Sogo, Breeze)
      Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall
Taipei City Hall / Xinyi district malls (Bellavita, Mitsukoshi)
Houshanpi Station - Raohe Night Market

      • Day 4 (Day Trip? Still up for draft)**

      hotel checkout 10:30am

suggested trip - Yehliu Geopark + Jiufen Old Town? (how long should this take? will it be too taxing?)

ETA 10PM Ximending last look, take luggage from Hotel
en route to Airport (red eye flight)

      ---

Why the itinerary is as such:
I'm more of a city gal, so malls and modern structures are always a draw. Looking forward to Taipei 101 the most!
Going to Yangmingshan hoping to see autumn foliage! And it's near to Beitou (are the hot springs really that HOT?) Wasn't keen on Danshui intitially but it's also nearby so might as well.
Ticking the historical landmarks just because. CKS would probably be the highlight. Not into temples so left them out.
Going to night markets not so much for the food (not that adventurous) but for the experience. I might surprise myself.

Maybe you have other places to suggest in addition to the ones above? (and restaurants too!)
      Thanks in advance!!!

      Taiwan Nov 3, 2014 at 6:49 AM

Hi, I'm planning a 11 Days round the Island trip.

I need help on my itinerary, as below is the place that i would like to cover. I would like to know is it sounds logic witht the time allocated ?
      Day 1 & 2 : Jioufen
      Day 3 & 4 : Wulai, Wulai Falls & Hot Spring
      Day 5 : Hualien City
      Day 6 : Taroko Gorge
      Day 7 & 8 : Alishan
      Day 9, 10 & 11 : Taipei, Keelung & Dansui

Need help, anyone who can advise is the above route make sense, in terms of transportation & day spend for each location.

And also, I will be going early April, is there any cherry blossom can be seen during this season ? If yes, where would be the best place to go ?

      Thanks in advance.

      Cheers,

    • My last(?) question about my trip to Taiwan.

      Taiwan Nov 2, 2014 at 10:34 AM

After your help in my last post I think I´ve decided my itinerary. :-)

Something like this, what do you think?
Day 1: I will arrive in the afternoon after a long flight from Europe
      Day 2: Explore Taipei
      Day 3: Explore Taipei
Day 4: Will leave Taipei before lunch, heading to Hualien. In the afternoon I will explore Hualien and the coastline
      Day 5: Taroko Gorge
Day 6: Back to Taipei. Maybe in the afternoon if there is more to explore in Hualien
      Day 7: Explore Taipei
Day 8: Day trip to northern Taiwan, Ruifang -> Jiufen -> Keelung
      Day 9: ??
      Day 10: ??
Day 11: Back to Taipei, will leave Taiwan late in the evening

My last concern is day 9 and 10. I have three places I would really like to visit, but I don´t want it to be to stressfull. Shall I take the high speed train to Kaohsiung and stay one night? Or go to Sun Moon Lake or Alishan and see the sunrise? I saw some pictures from the sunrise and it was beautiful! :-)
I would really like to see all three places, but I can´t decide. I think Kaohsiung is the easiest and fastest destination, but is it worth it? Or should I stay in Taipei instead? I´m afraid I have to little time in Taipei.

Another question. I´m a vegetarian and I know it will be hard. I´ve been in China and Japan a couple of times and I know it´s hard to find vegetarian food. :-)
But, if I find a restaurant in with description vegetarian. Is it the same definition as in the western?

      Thank you for your help!

    • Feedback on my itinerary, pls!

      Taiwan Oct 26, 2014 at 8:44 AM

      Hi,

I´m going to Taiwan in mid November and need some feedback on my itinerary and help with some questions.

I start in Taipei, will stay at a hotel close to Main Staion which will give me great opportunities for communications. Is 4-5 days in Taipei enough?
After discoverieng Taipei I will do a couple of day trips outside the city. My suggestion is one day to Ruifang -> Jiufen -> Keelung and one day to Beitou Hot Springs. Is there anything else I can´t miss and should prioritize in northern Taiwan? What about Yehliu? Shifen?

Than I will take e train to Hualien where I will stay for two(?) nights and make a day trip to Taroko National Park. But after what I read it´s hard to visit tha park alone because the size of the park and the spots are not next to each other so you need a vehicle for transportation.
I don´t want to participate in a tour group, I would prefere shouttle bus with hop on hop off so I can take my time. Is there any options like that? Is there any local bus between the spots?
If a tour group is the only option, anything to recommend?
I´m travelling alone so I don´t want to hire a driver if I don´t have to

I would also like to see Sun Moon Lake but what I understand it is hard to cross the island so I have to take the train back to Taipei and then down to Taichung Station and then bus!?
Or Kaohsiung instead of SML? Or should I go to the south and the return north on the west coast?

Is there anything I "can´t miss" on the west coast while I´m there? After Taipei and Hualin/Taroko I think I have 1-2 days for the west coast. Shall I go to Sun Moon Lake, or is there anything else?

Or should I stay in the north after Taroko, because I don´t want to rush?

Please, give me some feedback! I´m soaking everything in :-) and I wan´t to maximize my trip with experience, but no rush...

      Taiwan Sep 21, 2014 at 11:20 AM

I´m thinking of going to Taiwan in mid November and I have a couple of questions.

I´m travelling on my own, is it a hard country for a lonely traveller? I´ve been in both Japan and China before so I´m not completely lost in eastern Asia ;-)

Is it easy to travelling around the island? Is the train and bus network easy to use and will I get to most of the tourist attractions by train/bus?

Is November a good month to visit Taiwan?

I was thinking about one week in Taiwan, then going to an island with nice beaches for some relaxing. Is there any beautiful islands of the Philippines close to Taiwan?

      Taiwan Sep 13, 2014 at 2:02 AM

Im familiar with agoda but I just heard booking.com & expedia.com. I am comparing prices using Tripadvisor and expedia.com is offering lower prices than agoda. Im not familiar with this site hence the question.

I am trying to book a hotel in Taipei (main inn taipei) and in Hualien (marshal hotel). Both of these hotels have all rooms fully booked on their websites but with availble rooms in agoda, booking and expedia (not sure how did it happen). We are shelling out a lot of money and we just want to know if the money is going to the right place. I tried to google this but im gwtting mixed reviews. Since people here are expert travelers, i want to hear from you. Thanks in advance!

      Taipei Aug 3, 2014 at 12:54 AM

We will be travelling to Taipei in early Dec for 7 days We are 3 generation family of 9 people (4 teens).
      We need transport
      - from airport to hotel
      - Daily from Hotel to visit sites, some day trips outside of Taipei
So many of us, imagine we will minimally need a mini bus.

      Guide
We speak some Chinese. Best if bus driver can also do a little guiding. Willing to hire separate guide... perhaps or student who can accompany us all 7 days.

Would really appreciate any suggestions on good and reliable options.

    • What to wear in Late Oct and Travel Itinerary

      Taiwan Jul 29, 2014 at 7:58 AM

      Hello,

My bf and I will be going to Taiwan on Oct30-Nov04 this year. I have a few questions hope someone can help me out plan our trip.

      1) We are currently looking at hotels in Taipei (Dahshin hotel & Main Inn Taipei). Can someone recommend other cheap but clean hotels near the Taipei Main station?

      2) Since we are to go on late Oct and early Nov, what is the weather like in Taiwan at that time? Will it be really cold and rainy? Im a bit of a 'fashionista' and really like to wear short shorts, sleeveless and dresses during trips. Will this be adviseable or should I wear leggings and pants instead?

      3) I already found a tour guide for our Jiufen, Yehliu park and Taroko gorge trip but would like to explore Kenting and Kaohsiung as well. We are only alloting 2days for this. Im having 2nd thoughts bec the train ticket to Kaohsiung is expensive (ntd 1500 per way). Is there any other transpo alternative to this places?

      4) If we are to stay at the hotels stated above, how are we going to these hotels from Taoyuan Intl airport? We will be arriving a bit late, 12:40am on oct30.

Is it still safe to commute at this hour?

Hope someone could help me. Thanks in advance!
