by valtor Online Now Oct 11, 2004 at 12:18 AM

WE plan to be 2 1/2 days in Taipei. We are interested to see turistical sightseeings, museums, the special (if are) arhitectural buildings. Can somebody tell us if there are (and if we shall have time) some interesting things to visit outside Taipei? What zone is recommended for hotel, to be close to museums, etc, restaurants?? Can you recommed some hotels ( 60 - 80)? Thanks

The most famous building in Taipei, I think, is the 101 skyscrape near Taipei city hall. The most famous museum is definately National Palace Museum ! The zone I suggest for hotel lies on Zhong Shan North Road along MRT stations from ZhongShan station to Yuan Shan station. (There's also Taipei municipal fine art museum near Yuan Shan)

Hello there! I'm glad to know you're coming to Taiwan! Welcome! Well, the traffic in downtown Taipei is very convenient, you can take MRT to most of the places. So, I strongly recommend a hotel located in Taipei Main Station, which is the center of all train routes. The hotel is about USD50 per night, which is very clean, very neat, you will be arond food area, Shin-Kuang Mitsukoshi Department Store, drug store, and onvenient stores! USD50 also include breakfast! :) (not perfect, but good enough....) Here is the information of the hotel: % Miyi Hotel 4 Han-Ko Street, Sec. 1, Taipei, Taiwan 886-2-2371-3151 % Hope this information works for you guys, and wish you have a great trip here!!! :) Happy travelers! Taiwan girl, YUMI*

Thank you so much! Your answer is the first that gives me some information about hotel and the zone. I worked hard to find any map or useful info in internet and in different forums, without any results. Now, I'll look for hotels in this zone. Thanks again

Thanks for wishes and information. I understand that, more or less, you recommend the same area as Bafgkm did, so now, with two similar opinions, I am sure that I got the right advice. I'll look in internet for the hotel details. Thank you. Liliana

Other than the tourist spots that others have mentioned, I would put CKS Memorial Hall on the to visit list. It is surrounded by traditional Chinese gardens and two traditional style buildings, with a grand archway at the entrance. It's quite magnificant. Since you only have 2.5 days, I would suggest you to focus your tour in the city. Travelling takes time too, especially during the rush hour. Avoid above-ground transportation if you could at these hours. And don't forget to drop by at a night market. I think the one that is the most accessible is Shilin night market. My travel page has more details if you're interested in finding out more. Enjoy your trip!
