Accomodations in Taishan

by lmerritt11 Online Now Sep 9, 2009 at 10:59 PM

I'm visiting this weekend with friends but I haven't been able to find much information about hostels on the top of the mountain online. We are hiking up during saturday, then plan to stay overnight to see the sunrise. We are low on funds though and would rather stay in hostels. Does anyone know the deal?

Are you sure you have the right province? You want the mountain in Shandong province, don't you?
Have you taken a look at my VirtualTourist Taishan travel page? If not, please look on Tai Shan Hotel Tips by ellyse for some information which I think would be of use to you. Be warned that these places don't speak English.
If you have any more queries, email me at ellyse99@yahoo.com and put "VirtualTourist" and your own username in the subject line.

I'm in Tai'an (Taishan) right now, and can't wait to leave. Ghastly hole.

Anyway, according to Frommers (2008), there's only one place to stay on the mountain, Shenqi binguan ("overpriced, over-rated") www.shenqihotel.co 680rmb

By the way, it costs 125 to go up the mountain, whichever route.

I really loved Taishan!!! What went wrong with it now?
And no, Shenqi Binguan is hardly the only place to stay up there -- Frommer's probably didn't really get around.

And, this is in the wrong province forum, if you're talking about the mountain.

I'm just answering the question, regardless of province.

Where I am in Tai'an (near the railway station) is really dirty and smelly. That makes me sick, physically. The school I am at is old and decrepit, never been maintained, cleaned, painted, mended since it was built 50 years ago. It's disgracefully furnished, holes in floor, broken blackboard (!) etc. They must mop the floors with urine, as the whole building stinks of ***. That takes me a while for my stomach to stop heaving before I can have lunch.

Thee are 50 students to a class. Students? Hah. 17-18 year olds who act worse than 5 years olds. Stupid, ignorant, lazy and rude. And the office staff are unhelpful and unfriendly.

That's what's wrong with it. I fancy the rest of the people in this dump are similar. 'm leaving this afternoon. Two weeks is enough. More than enough. Two hours would have been plenty.

Look, you went to a school, which normal travellers would not be likely to go to.
I had a pretty good experience with Taishan, so I guess I have to say that you got unlucky.

Actually from what I see, it was pretty much par for China.

Maybe it was you who got lucky.

    I've left there now.

I don't go around visiting schools in China.
