HK to Taishan

by brouhaha63 Online Now Jul 24, 2008 at 10:55 PM

I have heard that in the past, you could get a visa to enter China from Hong Kong while you were there and that it was pretty quick. I am planning to be in Hong Kong in December, and would like to take a day trip to Taishan. My questions- Is that enough time or should I plan for an overnight? Are there any organized tours (that might make it easier to get a group visa)? Should I get a visa for China in the US or would I be able to get it when I am in Hong Kong? Thanks so much for any insight.

Organised tours usually wouldn't go to Taishan, I think.
Are you holding a US passport?

The Olympics will be well and truly over by then so I expect getting a visa in Hong Kong will become a lot easier again. At the moment it is not at all easy. I dont see any way you could make Taishan a day trip from Hong Kong. You could take a ferry from Hong Kong to Zhuhai and there are probably busses to Taishan (maybe the Kaiping bus goes that way) but that would take 5 hours minimum I would think (travel time, customs etc) so you would have to overnight in Taishan. Maybe contac CITS
