Hi, Can anyone recommend any day trips I can do outside of Taipei that is easily done by public transport - especially using the Easycard as a means of payment? If buses and trains are involved how easy is it to buy tickets and know when and where to get off (from a language point of view)? Thanks
Better charter a tour taxi for one day tour.
you can only visit 1~2 spots.

Thanks, taiwan999. What would be some good places to go to that can be done in a day? How much would I typically expect to pay to charter a taxi?

Hi!
We've been to Taiwan thrice, and had travelled out of Taipei for short day trips. We've been to: Jiufen (or Chiufen) old street, Yehliu Geological Park etc. Our favourite was Yehliu - very interesting place. We took public transport (trains or express buses) to get to these places. For more information, you may want to browse through tips created by various VTers or look up the internet. Enjoy your trip to Taipei!

MRT and buses are very easy for you to visit Taipei.
You can take MRT to Guangdu, then rent a bike along the river to Danshui.
Make sure you can return the bike in Danshui then you can leave Danshui with MRT.
Danshui has an old street, you can taste some delicious food there, or find a cafe enjoy the view there.
Have a nice trip.
Ellen
