Sidetrips from Szczecin

by HORSCHECK Online Now Jul 4, 2009 at 12:44 PM

Hello VT friends and members,

We will be in Szczecin for a long weekend in teh middle of July. We are also thinking about going on a daytrip or at least a sidetrip to another town from Szczecin, preferably to the Baltic coast.

Ideas already include Kolobrzeg or Swinoujscie. So what are the best otions to get there by public transport? For me it looks like trains are kind of slow on these routes.

Please feel free to suggest any other places which shouldn't be missed as sidetrips when in Szczecin.

If anyone is interested in a little VT meeting in Szczecin around the 17th until the 19th of July, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you

HORSCHECK

    Hello again!

Kolobrzeg is beautiful resort, worth a visit. Swinoujscie is also popular sea resort.
You can visit also town of Stargard Szczecinski that is a old town close to Szczecin.

In 17th I will travel from Poznan to Warsaw and in 19th I will be at home in Estonia, cannot meet:)
Enjoy your trip in Szczecin region!!

    Hello Jevgeni,

Oh, so you are at least in Poland as well. A pity we can't meet, but sooner or later it will happen.

Another interesting town to visit from Szczecin would be Kamien Pomorski (see my page)and also Swidwin. I can't help you with the transport though.

During summer it's interesting to make a one day trip to the Baltic coast -
Swinoujscie and Międzyzdroje. There is a daily hydrofoli connection between
    Swinoujscie and Szczecin :

    Hello Magdalena,

Thanks a lot for the Hydrofoil tip. That sounds excellent and might be a very good option for us, at least for one way.

    Hello Ewa,

Thanks a lot for the PKS link. Is that only about the local bus services within the city (Szczecin) or can I also find out about bus connections to e.g. Kolobrzeg and Swinouscie?

Sorry, but my Polish is not too good, or let's say I almost don't speak any Polis. *winkygrin*

The firm PKS does not run the public transport within Polish cities, only longer distance connections starting in Szczecin.

    Hmmm, but when I write:

    Z: Szczecin
    DO: KOLOBREZEG

    it says:

    Rozkład jazdy
    Nie znaleziono przystanku: KOLOBREZEG
Prosimy pamiętać o używaniu polskich liter...

    Whatever that means.

Try writing Kolobrzeg and not Kolobrezeg, then perhaps it will work.:)

I can't help you from the computer I am using now as it goes dead when I write Polish capital letters (a fault that cannot be put right), and the site seems to accept only capitals.

Polish fonts are not so necessary in my opinion here. It enough usually for me to use copy/paste with cyrlic on the internet. So it should be easier even for our German friend.
So it is enough to find the funny polish type 'l' on any polish site like search Kolobrzeg in polish or Lodz. Then copy the first letter from Lodz or between o and o from polish Kolobrzeg and it should work.Otherwise I will do it for horse.... and give the results. But I think that the bigger fun is to work on it (ahahaha).

    Dzien dobry,

Now it worked. I used the correct Polish spellings for Świnoujście and Kołobrzeg and it worked fine. Thank you for your help.

Oh, and Maciek, my name HORSCHECK is not derived from "Checking horses". The German SCH is pronounced like the English "SH" and it has nothing to do with horses. :-)

...oh so it looks like VT can't really handle Polish characters ...but I think you both must know the correct spellings of your cities. *winkygrin*

HORSCHECK- sorry I always misspell everything (even in Polish).Just I try to find collocations if names are a bit different (and I have no time to check).Ich wiesse (not sure aboutt spelling again and no time to check) in Deutsch sch=Polish sz (to confuse you a bit more (hahaha).
However please admit that Horse check sounds also nice (like British call me 'magic' sometimes).
So I see that for me you will be Horszek (sounds quite friendly).Hopefully you don't mind it do you hahahaha).
