I am planning on travelling to Australia next year (hopefully April 2014) I have so many questions I don't know where to begin!
I'm new to this, never been to Australia and never owned a backpack so this is going to be a real adventure for me but something I've always wanted to do and don't want to regret not travelling years down the line.
I'm applying for a working visa so how easy is it to get work once there? I'm planning on starting in Sydney but have no idea where to go next, I'm going by myself which scares me but numerous people have said I will meet people out there so if anyone here is planning on going out next year and fancies getting in touch let me know :) would appreciate any advice on hostels-where is good to stay? Money-roughly how much is daily living? Security-are hostels etc safe?
Thanks for all help

i am wanting to visit sydney for a couple months, where would i stay thats in the city but not a hotel
we will be in Sydney for only 5 days. We would like to see a little bit of the outback closest to Sydney. What is your recommendation ?
Also is it possible to visit the Great Barrier reef in a day or two ? closest to Sydney?
Will my family like to travel to Sydney Aug 5 thru 10 next month, is it too cold and dreary?
Soon, I'm flying internationally back to Sydney, Australia — my home town — but I'm flying back with a ukulele (which is made of wood). I've never actually had to deal with customs before, so what should I expect? Is there a chance they will confiscate the item? Or do they take it and send it to me later? Or is there a chance I'll be able to walk straight through without a problem?
Hi I'm arriving in Sydney for my last leg of my trip Thursday 25th July -30th July and would like to know if there is anyone that can show me around the area? I love running and know there is a 10k run near Bondi beach (i think), i'm not all about runs I would like to walk around the city with someone who knows where the best places are and the cheapest places to eat.
I'm fun, bubbly and love to talk. :)
Currently booked in the Hostel on Bondi beach.
So interested in going to the Blue Mountains and not sure if i should do a tour or a self hike , if anyone is interested in doing that with me or can advise what is best, that would be awesome.
have a top day Emma :)
Hi fellow Vts,
My brothers family, my parents & I are thinking of renting 2 cars to drive from Sdyney to Melbourne & back. I read that there are few different routes to take between these 2 cities, so we are thinking of taking 2 different routes to & fro. Do you guys have any recommendation? We only have around 14 days, so I was thinking, is it too far to drive to Melbourne, or should we just drive to Canberra? Is blue mountain along the way too?
Another question is that should we rent the car directly from Sydney airport, or should we take public transport whilst in Sydney, & only collect the car when we are driving out of the city?
My niece is going to be on her honeymoon in August there. I am looking for a tour to send them on so they can see some of the wild life. I did try booking with Blue Mountain, but the affordable tour was already booked for the days they will be there. I would like to keep it around $150 per person.
Hi there, so we are traveling to Australia on the 27th this month, and we were wondering are there any hotel recommendations for hotels close by to the airport for a one night stay. We are also driving to Gold Coast the next day, so do you know what time we should start driving? Thank you in advance for all the answers :)
Like the title says I've managed to lose my lifetime work of music compositions somewhere between Coogee beach and Sydney Central. I've already contacted the hostel in Coogee, the local police office, public transports, the hostel in Central and Jetstar which I flew with from there to Cairns. What else can I do ?
I will probably spend last weekend in Sydney. I have spent a weekend in BLue Mountain and planning to venture outside again. Is there any recommendation? 2-3 hour of trip by train will be ok. Anything interesting, nature, sports interest will be fine. Is melbourne possible to visit in a day?
Hey, I am French national thinking of going to Australia with a WHV in sept-oct.
I was woundering if it was safe for women to go alone in Australia or if there were things to avoid.
It has always been a dream to go there but i am still figuring out if it is a smart move to make.
I am staying in CBD in Sydney and planning to visit Blue mountain this weekend.
1. What is the best way to go to the place? How much is the cost of train ticket?
2. What are the activities /site I can visit in Blue mountain.
3. What is the safe time to return to CBD.
4. Any other tips?
We are going to be in sydney in July what kind of weather should we typically expect? And do museums and attractions close earlier in winter?
me and my friend will be arriving in Sydney next february, and plan to travel and work up East Coast via greyhound.
any ideas how long we should stay in Sydney to begin with and should we stay in different hostels? how long should we stay in the first one for? a week or so?
I am in the UK and hoping to visit Sydney in March 2014 for a month. What is the best way to book reasonably priced accommodation for this amount of time? I would be wanting at most a small apartment or at very least a bedroom with ensuite for just one person. I have seen sites with rooms in houses but with shared bathrooms which does not appeal to me.
This may sound daft but do I need a visa if I am just visiting for a month on holiday?
Thanks for any advice
Hi, I am planning to go to London in August this year. This will be my first flight to London and I have never done such a long fligth before. Could you please suggest a good airline interms of good service, leg space, food and reasonable price? I prefer one stopover. I am looking at a few options i.e. Etihad, Cathay, British, Emirates. Please share your experience to help me decide which airline to fly.
Thanks heaps in advance.
Hi I'm travelling to Sydney in December and looking to find some accommodation pretty central for 3/4 weeks from 16th Dec. Wondering if anyone knows any relatively cheap housing suitable for backpackers for me and potentially a few fellow travellers I'm meeting over there. Many thanks

The cruise does Italy turkey Greece and Barcelona so thinking of bus tour or train to see a lot without the hassles of airports etc. thinking of starting in London and finishing near Venice to catch the ship or starting in Barcelona at the end of the cruise. We have never been to Europe we r a couple in our early 50's we r very active and live to b kept busy. Looking about 10 to 12 day bus/train tour we like the idea of a guided tour as we normally do all of our travel and excursions ourselves any suggestions appreciated thanks Debbie

Looking for a 2 bed apartment to rent for a week in Sydney - what kind of prices are they
My husband and I (Canadians ages 65) are looking to spend about four nights in Sydney in MArch 2014, after arriving there by cruiseship. Where would you recommend that we stay that's close to the must see sites of Sydney... and we love beaches too!
Hello, I am looking into lodging options for our trip to Australia next year. We are flying into Brisbane from LA -- figure to spend 5 nights there, then fly down to Melbourne, 7 nights there, then rent a car and drive the great coast road - three nights out there before flying to Sydney.
The plan is for 10 or 11 nights in Sydney, we are looking at self-catered apartments. We don't plan on a car for Sydney, and do plan on a number of day trips as it is clear there is much to see and do.
We are in our 60's and fairly experienced travelers (US, Canada, Europe, Israel).
Do folks here have some suggestions? While we are not *super* budget conscious, we are looking for reasonable cost options for that length of stay.
Have been thinking to go to Blue Montain (day trip), and seen some day tour which look like including other stuff than Blue Montain(more than I need). And I have been reading that I can go there by train to Katoomba then continue with bus and experiencing scenic railway.
Any experiences if I better join on tour or go on our own? Is it complicated to go on our own (prefer this)?
Any info on ticket will be appreciated
Many thanks in advance
I will have my family visit me in Australia and would like to bring them in Sydney which I never been there too. I just recently moved o Australia too.
We will spend like 4 days there, any idea where to go?
Thing to consider is that there will be my mother (72 but fit) and little niece (3 yrs). Something not very adventourir I am thinking :-)
And where is the best place to buy souvenir ? We will stay near central station
Thanks for all input
We are planning a quick visit to Sydney after a cruiseship itinerary. Would like to know a good location to look for hotels, that can make our stay more productive.
Also how far are the wineries and are there any tours going there?
Your reply is appreciated
