Hey. I'm getting to know a girl who has just moved to Sydney from Brisbane to study. She knows almost nothing, probably seen the opera house, knows where Central is, not much else. So I offered to guide her around, point out the main parts, etc, etc. I'm thinking probably start at Central, walk up to Darling Harbour, passing Paddy's and Chinatown and all that stuff. Maybe Harbourside for lunch, then monorail or walk to QVB and Hyde Park. I don't know if it's worth it to actually go into any attractions like the museums, centerpoint, or aquarium. Any tips? Anything important I'm missing out? Good places to pass through? Thanks in advance!
Opera house and a boat ride will be nice too... Have fun,

The Rocks area is a great place to explore and a trip on the Manly ferry is a wonderful opportunity to show off the harbour. Also a walk across the bridge and if you get tired catch a train back from Milsons Point. Sydney is a great city..I lived on the North Shore for many many years.

A ferry ride to Manly, have lunch......walk alongside the sea to Shelly Beach. Its a great scenic walk. The trip takes about 45mins, and wonderful views of coastline and the North Head. The Botanical Gardens are nice, and if you have a car- drive to Hawksbury area. Glebe is an interesting eclectic suburb, with great coffee shops, and restuarants (which are reasonably priced)= there is also a fun outdoor market on Saturdays in Glebe- you can find ANYTHING there. If she is interested in Australian and other animals- Taronga Zoo is good. Buy a combined ferry/zoo pass.......it is a good cost saver.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I'll ask if she wants to take a ferry to Manly. Taronga Zoo I'm not so sure about, since she'll live here for the foreseeable future so there's tonnes of time to go out and spend a day there sometime. The Rocks and a coast walk also sound like excellent ideas.

+1 for Glebe markets & a ferry to Manly, or Watsons Bay. Fish & chips at the pub would be a winner. Also show her the train to Newtown. King St & Enmore Rd are full of affordable restaurants & great pubs. Your call with entry to museums & stuff, the MCA is re-opening soon. All the best! ;-)

> a trip on the Manly ferry is a wonderful opportunity to show off the harbour And see the Heads (?) and get a wonderful view of the Opera House from the waters (see my homepage pic!). You said she's a student? Then you might want to hop over (by bus) to Coogee Beach? ;-) You can get great food there, too, and in Randwick, enroute..
