Hi, During my trip to Swtzerland, I am planning to stay in interlaken (for 4 days). Out of those 4 days I would like to make a day trip on one day to Grindelwald and another day to lauterbrunnen. I will start in the morning from Interlaken, go to Grindelwald and come back in the evening to interlaken. Similarly Start another day in the morning from Interlaken go to Lauterbrunnen and return back in the evening. I am planning to do this because I am not able to get any hotels/hostels in Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen with Kitchen facility (which is my primary requirement) for one/two days. My queries 1) Is it good idea to travel to those villages from interlaken and return back in the evening. Are there good train facilities from these two villages to interlaken? 2) What could I do in Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen during one day (from morning say 10:00 till evening 6:00)? Thanks, Satya
I can speak for Lauterbrunnen since we stayed there for 3 nights. First the train that connects Interlaken with Lauterbrunnen takes 20 minutes. Going to Grindelwald you will also go to Lauterbrunnen and then change to a mountain train to take you up to Grindelwald. A very easy travel and easy to do from Interlaken. I suggest you check out my page on Lauterbrunnen for some hints and tips on what to do during the day. A walk through the valley and indoor waterfalls are a nice way to spend the day. You could also take the cable car up to the village of Murren. The cable car and subsequent short walk or mountain train will take you to Murren. The cable car is located directly across from the train station in Lauterbrunnen.

Not certain of your likes/dislikes from your home page, but besides wandering each of the villages and activities as mentioned by Rich, there's lots of outdoor activities. The railcar to the top of the Jungfrau is one of my more memorable experiences. Skiing most any time of year on the Jungfrau, experiencing the incredible views on the trip up/down etc. There's my daughter's favorite, "Canyoning" (zip line down the Jungfrau and drop into one of the streams) for the adventurous. Both trips will be rewarding in their own way. The scenery is wonderful.

Thanks again. After lot of thinking I have now decided to stay in Grindelwald for 4 nights and 5 days. I have small kid and thought that this will be good place to stay. I am staying in Chalet Hohturnen / Hotel Gletschergarten I want to do some hiking (some basic ones as this my first time) with my kid in a stroller. Could you please suggest some hiking areas nearby grindelwald which are safe with a stroller. Also can I rent a good stroller in grindelwald? Thanks, Satya
