Traveling from Bellinzona to Disentis

by scallens Online Now May 13, 2012 at 1:31 PM

I about 2 weeks we will be in Switzerland traveling north from Bellinzona. Rather than take route #2 north to Andermatt, I was thinking about taking route 416 from Biasca to Distetis for a more scenic drive. Does anyone have information as to whether it will be open to vehicular traffic at that time? Is there a site that tells about all road closures in Switzerland daily?

I have only found an Italian site with traffic information in that area: http://traffic.rtsi.swisstxt.ch/ However, in this season you won't likely have any problems with closures as winter is over in Switzerland as well. A potential option for information could be either a tourist office, a police station (Gendarmeria) or a fuel station on a highway.

The Lukmanier Pass is indeed open at the moment, so you could take route 416, and it's certainly a scenic way to get to Disentis. However, even in early summer it is still possible that sudden snow fall closes pass roads at short notice, so inquire beforehand.
