    Hi and welcome to VT......d:o)

Sorry, I don't quite understand your question. Is there a tortoise anywhere in the streets of Swakopmund?

    Can you tell me more....?

Swakopmund is on the Skeleton Coast of Namibia, and old German compound that has grown quite a bit.

    Please explain what you need.

I spent a few days in Swakop last November and can honestly say that I did not see any tortoise on the streets while I was there, It is not a creature normally associated with the Namib desert, so far as I known. However, much to my surprise they seemed to be fairly common in Etosha.

I didn't see a tortoise in my time there either! What a fascinating question - I'm now very keen to know the answer ;-)

So I googled "Swakopmund" and "tortoise", and came up with this, from our very own CatherineReichardt, that may have given rise to the question:

"Beware of livestock and wildlife on the road" - Swakopmund Warnings Or Dangers Tip by CatherineReichardt
    [see next to last paragraph]

But I believe Cathy was referring here to driving in Namibia in general, not specifically to Swakop - hopefully she will find her way here and confirm that.

Yes, some of the roads in Namibia are a bit of adventure, between the potholes, rocks and goats, driving can be a bit of a challange. We did not have any turtle problems, but goats are unpredictable and would decide to cross the roads pretty well at random. Cattle were less of a problem as they tended to ease their way across the road rather than darting like a goat. We had to brake for warthogs and a giraffe.

    Hi
Yes, have dodged tortoises on many a Namibian road in my time. Are they common in downtown Swakop??? Well, probably not during the day, but in quieter periods such as early morning, it's quite possible.
But your question is still ambiguous ... are you considering tortoises as an attraction or a potential hazard?
    Regards
    Cathy
