Me and my husband are planning our anniversary trip in Spitsbergen. We're from Mexico and want this to be the trip of a lifetime. We'd like to know what is the best travel agency in Spitsbergen, one that can really give us out of this world activities that can make our trip memorable. We want to experience the real Spitsbergen, get as many activities and adventures as we can. Any suggestions on who to contact?? Also, any suggestions on things we MUST do while we're there? We've looked into activities and dont know how to pick the best ones! We've both tried snowmobiling and dog sledding in Canada (Yukon Territory), so that would not be something new. However, I've read about snowmobile trips that take you out of town, but there are so many to choose from! Which area would be the best to visit? And a very important question....how many nights would you recommend for us there?? We're planning to go to Norway first and then Spitsbergen. We are so excited about this trip, but so nervous of missing out on special activities there. Overall, we just want this trip to be as magical as possible! I'd love all the help we could get.
Hi - welcome to VT! I'd recommend staying at the Radisson. It's really nice and the restaurant is excellent. Spitsbergen Travel (www.spitsbergentravel.no/eng/) booked all our excursions. Take a look at their website to see what winter excursions they offer - hopefully you'll see some polar bears. I'd also done snowmobiling and dog-sledding (in Alaska) and it didn't compare to doing it in Spitsbergen!! If you'd like to take a look at my photos/tips/travelogue - you'll find them here...."At The Top Of The World!!" - Spitsbergen by Donna_in_India. Oh, I'd stay at least 3 full days. Have a great time!

We used this company (for a trip to Iceland) in the days when they were called Arctic Experience: www.discover-the-world.co.uk. They were very good and have been around for a long time.

How did your trip go? In January it is pitch dark unless there is a piece of the moon visible, so days must have been short for the kind of adventures you sought? I did not see your message on the Svalbard forum until today; otherwise I could have given you some tips. Hope it was good, anyway!
