We are hopefully visiting the Porsche factory in Septmeber. I am finding it difficult to work out where to stay in Stuttgart. We will only be there one night but will have a few hours to look around in the afternoon. We don't have a car so would we take a taxi to the factory tour or public transport. Is the airport far from town? Another post I read suggested Ludswigberg as a good place to stay. Thanks Sylv
From airport there is good public transport connection - S-Bahn. See the vvs.de/karten-plaene/haltest... webpage. Also a S Bahn (Railway) connection to Porsche. (S6) For the hotel it is easy, use the hotel search engine like hotels.com or booking.com or..... Would stay in Stuttgart. Perhaps Hotel in the centre is the best option- but cost more. Gives you freedom to go around. There is another budget option to stay in hotel near Porsche - Golden Leaf Hotel, and after visiting the Porsche plant with S Bahn to the Stuttgart and back in the hotel. But takes time you don't have. Ludwigsburg is also a option.

I stayed at the Riekar by the central train station. It was OK, vary basic but did have a good breakfast included and was very reasonably priced. I probably wouldn't stay again. Lots of car industry biz people. The chain Mercure have a hotel close (1 KM) to the train station and I have good experience with them. As long as you are close to the metro you can get all over. I did the Mercedes museum a few years back and ran out of time to to the Porsche. I think the prior poster give you good info as to which metro. Easy to check when you are there. Karl

Ludwigsburg is a lovely town and I would surely stay there if I wanted to visit the Porsche factory. There is an S-Bahn connection that takes only 12 minutes (1 change), as Ludwigsburg is only 8km away. Also connection S-Bahn/bus which takes 17 minutes. Zuffenhausen is just a rather unexciting suburb while Ludwigsburg has a beautiful and colourful baroque centre. There is also a castle and gardens (Blühendes Barock) you can visit. There should be enough time for this beside your Porsche factory and museum tours. From Ludwigsburg it is also easy to get to the airport. The S-Bahn trip (one change at Hauptbahnhof) takes 45 to 60 minutes. The airport is on the other side of Stuttgart and well off the city centre, that's why it takes a while to get there.
