Is this an international flight? If so, you should be in the airport two to three hours before departure, to have time enough for check-in and security. In August the lines will be longer than usual. If I were you, I'd get an earlier train. Or, if you can , change your flight to Paris, this would save you all the rushing to make tight connections.

As others suggested before, it would be best to take an earlier train. Another option to get to Munich from Stuttgart is to take the S-Bahn from Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof to Stuttgart Airport and then fly to Munich with Lufthansa at 1.20pm, arrival Munich Airport at 2.15pm. But as said, if you have an international flight out of Munich this would already be too late. Plus, it would be a very expensive way of travelling.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions. I checked with Lufthansa 2 hours before is OK. So either train or one way car rental ($150) from Stuttgart Hbf to Munich airport will work.Regards

Don,t expect to drive there in a given time, there are often traffic jams on this route especially on a weekend. I was going to ask too if flying would be an option from S,gart to Munich. I would make very sure the airline you are travelling with knows your arrangements as if they know you are en route by air they will have a fair idea of what time you will arrive in Munich.

If you're flying Lufthansa out of Munich, then try to book the flight from Stuttgart to Munich as a first leg. It may be too late now for any major reductions, but better than paying extra for a missed flight out of Munich. Whatever you decide, let us know how it worked out.

DB timetable reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/qu... From: Paris Est To: MUC You can still buy the whole trip for EUR 69,00 if you have not already bought your trip from Paris to Stuttgart anyway. Earlier train? Nice idea. But there is no earlier train. Next realistic earlier option is the night train from Paris to Munich. Lufthansa flight or arrival 14:15 vs. 14:17 by train? a) if you have to check in luggage: train b) Lufthansa and Star Alliance fly from Terminal 2. If your flight does not depart from Terminal 2: train The above is void if you can still get this as connection flight from Lufthansa, i.e. if your luggage is transfered automatically to your onward flight. 1,75 hours plenty for European flights sufficient for intercontinental flights not sufficient for flights to the US or Israel

After reading advice from everyone... booked the train Paris to Munich Airport (2:17)to catch 4:10 flight.Ticket from Paris to Stuttgart was almost same as Paris to Munich Airport for family of 4 (about300). There is 9 min change time in Stuttgart. If TGV from Paris is late still can rent a car on Track #16 as backup. Thank you again.

I forgot to write about this connection. I arrived from Paris by TGV at 11.04AM in Stuttgart and was able to get ICE 593 at 11.12AM ( ICE train started in about 60 seconds after I took the seat. so connection is tight but if you prepare you can make it). But it did not reach Munchen Passing at 1.20PM ...was late by almost 10 minutes ( I was so surprised by this as I have travelled 15 years in Japan by Shinkansen and have never yet seen train getting delayed by even one minute in any station. I do not know how they do this. Every one told me in Germany also sytem is like this....but this was an exception) and I missed S8 train to the airport at 1.29PM. If I remember right I took 1.49PM train and reached Airport about 1.25 hours before my flight. Lucky not much crowd and was able to get flight..........ICE trains are extreamly well designed and was fun to travel in but it was an experience that train can get delayed......

I'm glad you made it. The story that trains in Germany are never late is a myth. It's true they're usually on time, but when you're in a hurry even two minutes can be two too many. That's why I like to plan a large safety margin.
