Could you tell me if the day group tickets are available from ticket machines please and do they need to be validated or is the date of use already on there?
You can purchase day group tickets from vending machines. They do not need to be validated if you purchase them from a vending machine or a bus driver. They do need to be validated if you purchase them in advance (e.g., online).
See vvs.de/en/fahrk_fahrkarten_g...
for details.

I had trouble finding the group ticket when I used the English translation. It was easy to find when I stuck with the German

No I mean on the machine at the stop (which in my case was near the Porsche Museum)

at VVS sales points, e.g. the SSB Reisen office in Möhringen, Holdermannstraße 48

but not if you buy them online. If you buy online you have to select the travel date before proceeding. This won't also work from technical aspects. You cannot have the online ticket which has to be printed on A4 paper stamped by a ticket validator.
