    • Transferring between T2 and T5

      Heathrow 13 hours ago

My friend is arriving at T2 (from Frankfurt) and departing for the US from T5 - different airlines and not through ticketed, as far as I can tell. So she's going to have to pick up her luggage, transfer terminals and check in. She only has two and a half hours to do so. And she's a US citizen, so presumably might be held up at immigration.
Is this an impossible schedule? As she's transiting the airport, is there some simpler quicker way to do this than going through immigration and customs as a normal arriving passenger would, before she transfers terminals?

    • Athenaeum Street on Plymouth Hoe.... Please help with history

      Plymouth Jan 4, 2015 at 3:34 PM

Hi, I am researching my property on the Plymouth Hoe but having a bit of trouble:( It was built in 1749 and stands as the first and largest house on Athenaeum Street. It was mentioned to of been built originally for a nobleman connected to St Andrews church and later rumored to of been used as the American Consulate during WW11, following that to be owed by Danny La Roue. These references where given to us by a man researching the area staying at the hotel across the road but he was just vacating so only spoke for a few mins. We also had a note left in the house from the previous owners when we purchased the property in 2009. The exterior of property was remodeled by Foulston during the development of Athenaeum Street in the 1800's and later the house was separated into 2 parts in 1903 (of which I purchased the main). The problem that I am having is that as the property is so old, I can not find out what the house was originally named or what the address would of been before Athenaeum Street was developed around it. I have found it may of been built on the site of ' Kingsdon Sq' from one old map also that it was not eligible to pay taxes from another map. I don't know the original owners details and can not find any pictures of any form dating back that far. I have been trying to collate the History with our son as a project for some time but the National Archives allude us. The property has been Grade II Listed and we think it's history really should be unearthed. We have also checked the census from 1851 and found the Baddeley family here who married in with the female Edgecumbes which to this day we still finde the Baddeley's and Edgecumbes very closely connected around the world. They also had alot of dealings in India. Please can anyone help at we have hit a wall ?

      With kindest regards :) 30 Athenaeum Street PL1 2RQ

      Heathrow Dec 29, 2014 at 9:08 PM

I will be arriving at Heathrow from Mexico City at 16:15 on Apr. 27 (T4), I need to catch a flight the following day to Istanbul (departing from T2) and I have two options: 6:55 or 11:55, I'd rather prefer to take the first one, to gain time before arriving to Turkey, my point is that I was planning to sleep at Yotel in T4 and then move the next day to T2 in the early morning, at what time does the Heathrow Express starts working? (or can I walk between these two terminals?), because I need to be at Turkish Airlines counter at 5:00 the latest, could someone help me please?, I could find any schedule online...

Harry Potter Studio tour - Query

      London Jan 14, 2015 at 2:24 AM

I am interested in going to Harry Potter studio tour and found the official website listing price for family (2adults and 2 kids) is less than private tour operators. However, the only timeavailable from the official website is after 6pm - I wanted to know whether studio is worth a visit in the night and will I miss any outdoor settings. I youtubed some videos and found the place shown in dim light and with creepy sounds - which made me think that my younger daughter aged 5 who has some development delays may find it a problem. Anyone has views/advises on my two questions? My elder daughter who has read those 500 & 800 pages books was very excited to goto this place.

      London Jan 13, 2015 at 7:51 PM

      Hello,

My husband and I will be flying in to Gatwick and flying out of either Gatwick or Stansted in Mid May. We get in around 1:30pm and leave about that same time the following day. Where will be the easiest area to stay if we fly out of Gatwick and what's best if we fly out of Stansted? We are in our early 30's and in good physical condition, but will have backpacks so we don't want to have to walk too far from the train stations. We aren't too worried about doing too much sightseeing, but want to be in an area that is very walkable with good restaurants. We also want to be close to whatever transportation is easiest to get us back to the airport. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

But after match-day I am not sure on where to go next. I thought of discovering England especially the countryside. Any ideas where I should go next after Manchester. I have to be back in London by 15th April afternoon.

      Heathrow Jan 14, 2015 at 12:52 AM

Hi, we will leave from Dusseldorf with BA and arrive at T5 at 7.50AM.
We have to transfer to T3 to catch our flight to Dallas which leaves at 9.30 AM: also BA but operated by American Airlines.
When we booked this flight it said on the website this flight was operated by BA aswell, so we thought we could stay in T5, and 1 hour 40 min would be plenty off time!
However checking the BA website later we found out this flight is operated by AA, and we have to transfer to T3.
I'm very worried we won't make this transfer.
Would anyone be so kind to explain us, maybe step by step, what's the fastest way to go to T3?
Do i realy need to worry, or is 1 hour 40 min enough time?
Thank you for your time and help!

      Travel from Heathrow to Penzance

      England Dec 27, 2014 at 2:57 AM

What would be the best way to get from Heathrow to Penzance? I have looked at getting the train into Padington, staying the night thn getting the train to Penzance the following day. It is quite expensive and adds the cost of accommodation in London. I then looked at staying overnight at Heathro and hiring a car to drive to Penzance. One car hire company has a drop-off point in Pnzance. This is half the cost of the train from Paddinngton option. How long would it take to drive from Heathrow to Penzance? The bus looks like an all-day affair and not that appealing. I am going walking the Coastal path from Penzance to Falmouh at end of May 2015. Any ideas/advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Jenni

Stratford Upon Avon - Anne Wood - Rosie and Jim; Ragdoll Productions; Teddy Bears

by leecouk12324 Online Now Oct 28, 2011 at 5:19 PM

Hi - off to Stratford Upon Avon in a couple of days.
OK - well we all know that it is very famous for William Shakespeare.
However i am very interested in what else there is to see?
Many people are very negative about this - and many say there is little else to see - i do not believe this - there has to be some things other than Shakespeare.
Now in my FootPrint Britain book it mentions about the Teddy Bear Museum - this looks no longer here - which is a damn shame.
Then I was following in the footsteps of Anne Wood - famous for Telletubies - but also Rosie and Jim - so i would like to go to the Canal where it was flimed - i think Rosie and Jim was great. On google maps you can go to the former home of The Ragdoll Shop and you go to streetview you will see Rosie and Jim looking out of the top window.
So would like to follow in footsteps of Anne Wood - and any other notable people that have had an effect on the town.
Then there may be other things to see in Stratford Upon Avon.

What to do in the Stratford area

by diamond_skies Online Now Oct 31, 2008 at 7:35 AM

We are headed to Stratford next weekend and have been several times before so we are trying to find things to do in the surrounding area. We were in the Cotswolds in April so not sure we want to go back - unless someone can recommend them in November?

Bournville has been suggested. We would probably give Cadbury World a miss (being a big Green & Black's fan I couldn't really show my face there!) but would the town itself be worth a visit? What about Warwick? The castle is waaaay too expensive to visit but what about the town?

I guess what I am trying to find is someplace that would be a nice day trip from Stratford where we can have a dander about and take photos and might have some lovely autumn colours. Any ideas?

I have about 2 days to see some Cotswold villages in September. I like the look of Chipping Campden and Broadway (and of course Stratford-upon-Avon) but am wondering if I am missing out on any other must sees.

I am travelling with mum and we are more interested in short walks (less than 5 miles within villages or in the countryside), and looking at lovely houses, etc than being inside museums.

We will have a hire car.

Sorry to have to post this in the Stratford-upon-Avon section. I couldn't find a 'Cotswolds' section.

I was walking near the river tonight and spotted an injured canadian goose with a bad leg. It couldn't put weight on it and didn't look to be able to swim.
Do people check the birds over at any time? I heard that they were looked after but wasn't sure if they just fed them.
I hate seeing any animal hurt so hope that people do check them, because Stratford isn't the best at night and would hate for it to get hurt.

Your response would be much appreciated.

      Kind Regards Caroline Wright

We're going to the theatre this Saturday to celebrate my mother's 87th birthday. Could anybody recommend a good restaurant for dinner after the show?

      Thanks in advance, Robin

      Hertz car rental in Stratford

by londonlover Online Now Mar 31, 2007 at 11:41 AM

      Hello,

I see on Hertz car rental's website that they have a pick-up office at 1 Abbey Road in Straford-on-Avon, but I can't find any evidence of that on Stratord's websites, including the official tourist site or the railway station's site, so I'm a little suspicious of Hertz's claim. :) Can anyone verify that there are Hertz cars typically available to hire near the rail station in Stratford?

      Thanks,
      Tara

by lou31 Online Now Jan 2, 2005 at 1:24 PM

Hello....Has anyone stayed at a B&B called Monk's Barn Farm just south of Stratford. I am thinking about booking a 3 night stay there but would like to know a little bit more about the place. I would be grateful of any tips on B&B's in the area. Also I have heard of a place called the Shire Horse Centre. Is it worth a visit? Thanks in advance and cheers..............Louise

My husband and I had the time of our lives, way back in 1988, visiting with the locals at a Straford pub called the Fox Inn. They invitied us back again for 'Quiz Night'. I would love to take my kids there but don't remember where the pub is located. Does it even have the same name? Can anyone help? Thanks

Hi to all, I will be in Stratford mid May next year and am trying to organise an itinery for my UK holiday. Can anyone tell me if I can get some sort of tour either day or overnight to the Cotswolds from Stratford? Also if I hired a car how far is it to places such as Broadway or Evesham and how long would a drive take? One more thing.......Can I catch a train from Stratford to Scotland and if not which would be the nearest station? Thanks in advance.........I'm in a bit of a pickle about how to best see the Cotswolds in 3 days. Cheers..................Louise

      Room for rent

by new_hope30 Online Now Dec 31, 2002 at 9:44 AM

I am looking to rent a guest room in a home for the months of April and May, 2003, in either Stratford-upon-Avon or Telford. I need to be near public transportation in that I will not have a car. Does anyone have a recommendation as to how I can go about finding such accomodations? (Please keep in mind that I am making these arrangements from the U.S.) Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you, Camille
