Hi, I will be heading to either Colmar or Strasbourg on the 30th of Dec from Munich and spending two nights there. I will be going to Paris on the 1st of Jan. Would it be possible to visit both Strasbourg and Colmar in this time. For example, could I base myself in Strasbourg but also add a visit to Colmar since it's a short train ride? Or would I be better off choosing one over the other? I know that I won't be able to see everything I want in such a short amount of time, but I am having great difficulty deciding which place to go!
I'd like to see the Christmas markets and of course the lovely wooden architecture (as the major priorities) and all other sites as a bonus in the short time I will be there. I enjoy good food and taking in the sights. I will be traveling with my partner.
Hi.. We have made arrangements to rent a car for two days while in Strasbourg. We are already planning to take a train to visit Colmar on another day. So my question is: what other towns should we "not miss" within the area? We'd like to catch some of the sites and maybe even stop at a winery for a visit. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.. Tom

Hi folks! We'll be traveling to France in May 2013 and will have 5 days in Strasbourg. We'll be traveling around by train and I was hoping for some hints from people on places to visit around the area. We'd also like to find a guide or tour that can take us to a couple vineyards. Anyone have any ideas? Can you recommend a guide or tour group? Many thanks.. Tom
I'll be arriving on strasbourg at 11 pm and leaving at 7am in the morning. Since it is 24th of december, no hotels are availiable. Can I spend the night in the train station? Is the station open until the next morning?
I was in Strasbourg in May and purchased some stork items. One was a biege colored terry cloth baby bib written in French saying something like "I love my moma." I left it at my hotel accidently and would like to order another. Does anyone know the name of a shop where it can be purchased?
We will be in Strasbourg halfway through our three week trip. Time to wash clothes, but where to go? Does anyone know of a laundromat in Strasbourg, preferably near the train station? Also, we want to rent a car in Strasbourg then drive through the Black Forest and Bavaria. Are there any restrictions on crossing the border, and do we need any special drivers license, or will our Texas DL suffice?
I will be spending a week in Strasbourg at the end of April. I am retired, speak French and want to see places of historic interest. What do you suggest? I would also like to make a couple of side trips with public transportation. Maybe Nancy?
My friend and I are seeking an apt for 1 week in early July 2012. One place we found is on rue de la première armée. Can anyone comment on the area and/or can anyone suggest decent apts and areas? many thanks. VT has always been so helpful when I plan trips. I tell everyone I meet about how great it is!
Hi, Is it possible to buy the Alsa+ 24h ticket from Basel SBB to make our way to Strasbourg? Or should we cross over to France side (Mulhouse?)for the Alsa+ ? TIA
I have unexpectedly got the chance of a trip to Strasbourg in September, I will be there for 1 week, alone during the day and most evenings, without a car (unless I hire one) and probably staying in a basic hotel near the airport. It's not sounding like the best trip ever but I am looking forward to it, being in France again and seeing a part of the country I dont know well. None of the down-sides of this bother me but has anyone got any suggestions of how to fill the time after I have tired of the city centre? Thankyou in advance to all you lovely, clever and helpful VT members!
Planning on visiting Strasbourg over Christmas.. and as we will be there on Christmas Day we are looking for Hotels or Restaurants that will be catering for Christmas Dinner. we will have a hire car so should we have to travel that is not a problem, we were even thinking of Colmar.. Anybody have any suggestions so we could make an early reservation Thanks
All fellow VTr's, I have studied in Strasbourg 10 years ago.. and I want to go visit this year to celebrate with some friends... but because of the sessions of the European parliament.. no more accomodations are available (and I don't wanna pay 300 Eur/night)... anyone has an idea if there are any B&B, rooms or appartment to rent for 2 days (may 10 to 12)... something less than 75 eur/night close to downtown. thank you for your help !!!!!
Hello!..I'm planning a trip to Strasbourg&Colmar in April...and I'm looking for a budget(35-45 euro) but decent hotel in or near the center...and also safe for a solo female traveler.I'll be very glad for the suggestions...Is it possible to find other kind of and cheaper accomodation types, like b&b, e.t.c.? Should I stay in Colmar for a nignt or daily trip will be more economical? And any kind of other suggestions about the places to go in Alsace region and the route for Colmar would be great!:) many thanks.:)
Hi, I would like to find info regarding public transportation in Strasbourg. I figured so far (from http://www.cts-strasbourg.fr, which is unfortunately only in french), that tickets for bus and traing are interchangable. However, I would like to know how much one way ticket last? Is if I use a bus for two stations and then go on a tram, this stil considered 1 way, or is this a new ride? Also, I would like to know how safe is Strasbourg at night. I am planning to stay at Campsite La Montagne Verte. Would it be a good idea to walk to the center or walk back (during the day or at night), taking streets: Route de Schirmeck >>R. de Molsheim... or Route des Romains >> R. de Koenigshoffen Is it a safe neighbourhood? Thank you very much for your help! Frcafela
Hi! I am going to Strasbourg for a couple of weeks. What's the best way to travel to Italy, Luxembourg and Amsterdam from there? (if train, which one?, inexpensive airlines?) Thanks!
Me and my wife are going to stay 3 day in Strasburg towards the end of Sept. this year. It is my 1st time to this city or region. I would appreciate any suggestion how to make these 3 day as pleasant as possible. Thanks in advance H.Arkin
I am looking for a hotel recommendation in Strasbourg, France for September. We will be driving, so parking is important. I'd prefer a hotel within walking distance from the cathedral and the Petite France. Is it possible to find a clean hotel in that part of town for around 100 Euros? (+parking)? Any recommendations for specific hotels would be appreciated. I am looking at various websites now but it would be nice if I could have a recommendation from someone who has actually stayed at the hotel. Thank you Jeannette
We are staying in Strasbourg for 2 nights next week and in the middle day of our 3 days there will be taking a train to Basel to visit ArtBasel. Does one need to reserve a train seat for this type of trip, or can one just show up at the train station and purchase a ticket? Merci.
Can it be walked around outside? Building looks interesting outside, but we would not like to have a guided tour. Is it possible to go close to it just walking around, or is it at closed area? I did found their page, but at quick look, I didn´t notice that kind of info. We are leaving for 3 weeks trips in next friday and now doing last minute-cheks. echr.coe.int/echr/Homepage_E...
Hi I would like to ask which is the cheapest way to travel from Paris to Strasbourg? Bus or train? Where can I book tickets? Thanks
I thought that I heard, that there are many wine cellars at Strasbourg centre. Am I wrong? Now I don´t find any other than that one at old hospital. Or are they closed for public?
What are the various and or best (cheapest) ways to travel between Baden-Baden Germany and Strasbourg France? Thanks
hi guys, I need a room for february. any advice? thx p.s. aufklarer06@hotmail.com
My spouse and I will be in Strasbourg in December, and although we are on a strict budget, we would like to have one traditional Alsatian dinner because we hear the food is wonderful. I realize budget is a bit hard to define. I saw some good reviews for Chez Yvonne and looked at the menu on their website. It seem delicious but perhaps pricer than we hoped (entrees 17 - 20 euro) appetizers 15 euro or so. Can any one recommed a place that would give us a tradional meal at perhaps a cheaper price? Thanks in advance!
I am dismayed to find that all the budget hotels seem to be full the weekend of Dec. 4. Is that because of the Christmas markets? Since I can't find an affordable room on Friday Dec 4, I thought we'd go to Brussels earlier in our itinerary than planned, but I am having difficulty planning this route. I'd like to leave early evening 12/4 from Strasbourg to either Brussels or Gent (or alternately, stop in Luxemberg City for the night, catch a couple of sight in the morning, and continue on). Has anyone done this? Can you please advise me for cheapest and quickest options? Many thanks!
hi guys! I'm planning a visit in Strasbourg at the end of next week. maybe there will be any events around 19-21 of August in Strasbourg? but the main question is maybe a bit unexpected: are there any mosques in Strasbourg and if there are..anyone knows visitation posibilities? Thanks in advance! Best wishes from Lithuania, Dei.
