This Hanley isn't a city. It is a former settlement which is now part of Stoke-on-Trent. It's about a mile and a half from Stoke itself.

I cannot find any hostels other than one or two a long way out in the countryside. This is not a tourist-popular area and accommodation is very limited.

Have a look at the tourist info site for Stoke:

    visitstoke.co.uk/stay/stay.a...

    I foudn this b&b:

    http://www.verdonguesthouse.co.uk/

is in Hanley 'city centre' (it really is *not* a city!) and charges 26GBP per night without breakfast, £30 with breakfast: a very reasonable rate for UK b&b.
