We'd like to spend a few days in Stillwater sometime this spring just to explore. However, we are a same sex couple and I don't want to be hassled or dis-respected when I am away. We'd prefer not to stay in one of the 'chain' motels, but also can't spend200 a night. Does anyone have any ideas for places we'd be welcome, have our privacy and still be able to afford to stay for a few days? Thanks for your help.
I would try somthing like the Lowell Inn. It's big enough to be professional, but not a chain. The rates are somewhat reasonable as well. http://www.lowellinn.com

This is only anecdotal but I had thought that Stillwater was quite gay-friendly. In fact there was a story in the Minneapolis paper about gays boycotting Stillwater when a local politician came out against gay marriage (and all the merchants were worried because it is such a destination for the gay community). I guess my point is that I don't think you'll have much trouble there as a gay couple. Have a great time!
