I'm going to be entering at Naxalbari after three months of travel in Nepal. I'll be going to mirik and Darjeeling first, and then make my way down to the beaches!I'll be traveling through WB during the month of may. I'm not well informed about places to go to in WB, and I'm new to virtual tourist, it's a great site and a good travel source. I'm a sucker for historical places, nature, and food! WB is a beautiful state, and has much to offer in these matters :)
I'd really like for you to suggest really worthwhile places to go to between siliguri and Calcutta. I stay away from noisy polluted places, as I suppose any nature lover would. Riversides for a cool bath, waterfalls, national parks to stay in and around, forts and palaces, places of historical significance, architecture, and not to forget food! I work up a good appetite by cycling, and I want try some local delicacies!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance

I am living in kharagpur and my girlfriend is living is kolkata which is 2 hours from kharagpur.I want to spend a good time with her.I don't have much money means i have nearly around 1000 rs to spend with us.We just want a quiet place where we can talk with each other smoothly.We are together from 5 am morning to 9 PM night for one day.This is just our first meeting.And the problem is that summer is very hard to survive in kolkata.so i just want suggestion from all of you how to plan for whole of the day where we can have relife.We don't want to go in hotel as we are not so aged, around 20 both of us.Where to go .please advice in the morning and in the day and in the evening

Probably will be there for a few days before heading to Darjeeling. Was wondering also about Bodh Gaya if it's on the way to Darjeeling. Might like to stop there for a day to see it. Any suggestions? hi folks, i will be arriving by air in Kolkota 21 sept and will be departing by air less than 24 hrs later and was thinking of staying at Hotel Airways Lodge as it is reasonably priced and near the airport. Has anybody stayed there before and how do you like it, or can anyone else recommend clean budget hotels very near the airport.

Looks like i will be flying from Siliguri area to Kolkata on Oct 24th which according to my research coincides with the end of Durga Puja Festival. Will it be difficult to find budget accommodation. Any recommendations? I will be spending 3 or 4 nights in Kolkata before flying out, what are the "must do's"?

Our flight is landing in Kolkata @ 8 a.m. and we have a connecting flight at 2 p.m., will we have time to visit the Kali temple? Would the traffic be too much to take the risk? Hi We (myself, husband and 10 year old son)are hoping to visit Darjeeling/ Kalimpong/ Chalsa in April. However, I am a bit concerned about the current unsettled state up there. If there is a strike while we are there, is it only Darjeeling that is affected or will it affect Kalimpong and the plains too? Will we able to travel around? I understand there is an election in May - do you think this means the situation will get worse nearere the time? We are flying into Calcutta and I am not sure whether we should cancel our train ticket to NJP and head down to Puri instead (or across to Varanasi). Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks - Berni.

Hi, We are planning to be in Darjeeling for Mid-December and we are looking for decent and warm hotels - About Rs.2000 a night or so. We have looked at quite few in this range, but not sure if its warm enough and if they actually let us have a log fire. Warmth is a big criteria and cannot afford the Windamere or Mayfair unfortunately... TIA

I am looking at booking a budget hotel on Kolkata (with a pool) and was recommended the Artland Hotel. I want to be able to reach Eaden Gardens to see a cricket match there. How far away is it from the hotel ? If it is a long way from the hotel, can anyone recomend another hotel ? Many Thanks
