Hey everyone, I'm Sophie
I'm new to all of this but its just a quick question.
I'm 21 from London i will be studying in Melbourne City for 7 months. And i'm unsure of where to stay for accommodation obviously i'm on a cheap budget and can't be spending $250 per week which is what is coming up. Does anyone know of any student(ish) areas.
Also a-lot of the room rentals sound really bloody boring i may-be 21 and doing my final year, but i still have a life and want to socialise :D. Many of the rooms offered want boring people at the sounds of it. I want to know if anyone knows of a student website for international students travelling to Australia to have a chat and get to meet new people. I want to take full advantage of being Australia not pitched up in a room full of people that can't be bothered to talk! We only live once and i intend on getting the most out of my stay. HELP PEOPLE!!!!! :)
Hi there. I'm due to touch down in Melbourne in under 2 weeks. I just wanted some opionions or what would we be best when it came to apartment searching? Would going direct to real estate agents be the best way? Does anybody have any safe/trustworthy websites they can recommend? My girlfiend had been looking on flatmates.com.au but she has her suspisions as the apartments and prices look to good to be true. Can anybody verify whether or not this is a trustworty website.
Thanks in advance.
Rialto Tower, Melbourne vs Eureka Tower on Southbank, which one is a better choice to view Melbourne from above?
Just curious if there are others who have used the Melbourne free City Circle Tram and Melbourne Visitor Shuttle plus walking to See-It-All in the city of Melbourne in 3 full days like what we plan to do? Mind sharing your experiences? What are the places you have visited? The pros and cons of using the public transport in Melbourne? Long waiting hours? Can’t find a seat in the bus/tram and got to stand all the way from point A to point B? Safe to walk in the small lanes in Melbourne? Too much walking & too tired legs? etc. etc. We search online and couldn’t find any reviews of this sort :D
Has anyone done any tour with this company? Is it good?

Hello, my wife and I (early 60's) are planning on about 10 days in Melbourne next March. We will first arrive in Brisbane in late February (from the US) and spend 5 days there before flying to Melbourne.
We figure to hire a car and also rent a self-catering apartment.
Aside from that, we've seen day tours from Viator which look interesting.
We'd appreciate some feedback and ideas.
We anticipate returning the car to the train station and taking the overnight train to Sydney for some time there before returning home.
I've been reading the website and it goes on about Myki and tells you how to use it etc but doesn't seem to say that you must use it.... So, does anyone know if I can I still purchase tickets for buses/trams/trains with cash?
We are senios of 60+, will be in Melbourne for 7 nights in late October 2013, & plan to see most of the must-see in and around Melbourne. We are thinking of 2 alternatives:
(1) Book accommodation on our own & buy 1-day or 2-days trips to go out of Melbourne, or
(2) Buy a package including accommodation & day tours from a tour agent.
Which one will be a better choice? Please advise. Thanks.
was wondering if anyone can give me some info about the DFO's in Melbourne. I hear there are more than 1 & was wondering which was the best & where they were.
thanks
Hi All
Im arriving on the 27th march (late) and would like to stay in Melbourne for 2-3 days, until i find a way to get to Adelaide for a look around. I have already been on Couchsurfing website, but no one is free to host during the week it seams, so i was wondering, if anyone local on here would like to put me up for a couple of nights from the 28th march? Please fill free to email me as many questions about me as you like.
Thanks
Emma
Hi everyone. Due to arrive in Melbourne on the 06th May 2013 with my g/f. For the first couple of nights we are going to stay in a hotel. We're currently doing our research via gumtree for apartments we could possibly rent. We've been given locations such as flinders st, collins st, bourke st etc... We will both be getting jobs to support our stay. Can anybody recommend the best locations to stay for value for money? As an estimate we would be looking to pay between $200 - $300. Are there any other sites people could recommend?
Thanks again VT
My daughter is backpacking and will be in Melbourne in April and is looking for a months work . She is 30 y o and can be found here on VT but if you know of any jobs going please reply to me (her dad) as i access VT more often.
Any advice which farm is better and more suitable for toddlers? Any idea how long is the farm tour duration at Warrook Cattle Farm? http://www.warrook.com.au/
hello, we would love to know about the different rooms you have. We are looking for one with a spa, so we can get away for a night or two and relax without the child around us. We like the sound of the Suite with Spa Bath and the One-Bedroom Apartment with Lake Views. Also wish to know about the Restaurant that you guys have as well. We are Best Western Members and would love to come up your way and stay again. Look forward to hearing from you soon. Regards Meagan
Is it more expensive to collect and return car at the airport?

Hi everyone! I booked our first Australian family vacation (4 nights in Sydney, followed by 4 nights in Melbourne in February), however have become overwhelmed navigating websites for suggestions in what to do. There's so much the two cities have to offer, that I am hoping to receive recommendations from those who've already "been there". It's me, my wife, and two children (daughter 17 and son 10). We don't want to rush things, but also want to experience/enjoy what may be a once in a lifetime trip. Thanks in advance! Anil
Hi to everyone!!! Can anyone tell me the fare rate and student discount about the traveling from ballarat to melbourne. Thanks. Bijendra
Hey team - thanks in advance for any advice. I'm doing a solo driving trip around NSW/Vic, and I arrive in Melbourne on 1 Jan for a week(?). I'm definitely headed to The Great Ocean Rd. I've been before and just recall the 12 Apostles and seeing some koalas. It was a group tour. Now, I'm on my own, and I'm wondering what are the towns I should stop in for a browse/beer? What is one or two hikes in the area? What beaches should I stop and see? What town should I stay in? Ahhh so much to plan. Thanks from Sydney, Aus. Mike
Hi All, I will be driving to Melbourne from Sydney on a weekend at night via Hume Hwy and need your help in planning my trip. How long is the drive? I will be attending a function at noon the next day in melbourne. Where can i stop over for a night? I prefer to stay on the highway and abt 3 to 4 hrs from melbourne. Please suggest hotels that will allow later checkin, close to midnight. Please also recommend good short stopovers. Thanks' in advance
We are visiting Melbourne, have a car, and a hotel for 2 nights, we also have one more night in Phillip Island. My question is do we stay one more night in Melbourne and cancel Phillip Island in order to do the coastal drive to the east or stay the one day in Phillip Island and do not do the coastal drive. Or maybe we can just visit the island for the afternoon. Ideas, suggestions, Thanks
Which zoo would you recommend, Melbourne Zoo or Werribee Zoo? I know Melbourne Zoo is so much nearer but since i never been to Werribee, i am curious. So distance is not really an issue. I will also be traveling on public transport with a 3 years old. I want her to get close and able to feed the kangaroos like you can at Healesville. Can you do that at Werribee or Melbourne Zoo?
Hello all, we are two students from Slovenia and we would like to rent a car in Mel (airport) and go to Adelaide. Can you tell me, which company to take a car? And we would like to have everything in price (accident insurance, miles, ...) We never do that, so we dont know a lot. Can you pleeease help us. We would like do a trip from Mel to Adelaide and see 12 Apostols (Great ocean road), can you advise me how and where to go. We are comming to Aussie in 6th December and leaving in the end of January, but we need car only for one week. Thanks a lot, Ivana&Ivana :)
Best weather forecast website available for Melbourne? Which website should i check before my trip to know what to pack and what to wear?
My family and I are planning to rent a car for a day for GOR trip. 1. Anyone can recommend a good reliable car rental company for a family of 4 plus toddler chair in Mel? Does car rental charges by distance driven? 2. Can anyone suggest places to stop and a rough time guide for a trip on the GOR in late Oct? Just in time (after parking and stroll to the lookout point) for sunset at the 12 apostles? We need to have lunch and dinner stops too. As I said, ive done this trip multiple times but i think always at the same stops. So new places to make it interesting for myself would be great. A hidden beach perhaps? I was planning to rent a car in CBD in the early morning and just send it back super late at the airport after dropping the rest of us back at the hotel in the CBD. My husband will get the bus back. I find that renting a car for 3 1/2 people this way is cheaper than for a person's fare on a tour. OR should i just keep it for another day travel to Melbourne Zoo before returning it back to CBD office? Now before anyone suggest a tour company, i have done this one day trip multiple times for family and friends. So im (sort of) familiar with the route. Only problem is, i dont remember how i did them! All i do remember is leave CBD by 8.30 - stop at Torquay - stop at Apollo Bay for lunch? - stop at Loc Ard Gorge?- reach 12 Apostles site for sunset. Take the inland road home. And i would reach home by 10.30
Hi Everyone, Just a kind notification that a text message is going around saying that a protest similar to the kind organised in Sydney a few days ago is planned to take place outside the state library in the CBD on Sunday 23rd Sept. Now, the protests are supposed to be strictly non-violent so there really is nothing to be worried about. It is mostly likely going to be uneventful, but given what happened in Sydney (for those who don't know a couple of police officers were injured leading to pepper spray and police dogs being called out) perhaps it's worth taking extra care in that area. Police will be there in numbers to keep an eye on things as well. I'll post any updates I get. Thanks. Take care, Leon
Im going back to melbourne after a long 8 years. I was quite familiar with the public transportation but now there is this Myki. And im back as a tourist, can someone tell me what is the difference? My husband will be going a day before me so I wanted to brief him on buying Metcard especially if hes taking the tram after 6pm, he only have to buy 2 hours ticket thingy, does that still apply for Myki? Myki tourist AUD14 vs Myki normal fare AUD 6, i get that there are discounts for touristy places but is it worth it? Can i purchase Myki tourist on the tram/train? Or normal tickets? Can we still use Metcard in Oct'12? Bottom line, do i need to get Myki?
