Srinagar safe?

I've been many years ago in the wonderful Srinagar, Kashmir. I would go back there and I'm interested to know how safe it's now... I mean not only the city, but also its surroundings, like the Srinagar-Kargil road.

    I was in Srinagar in may end enroute to Leh. I spent 2 days there and then another one in Kargil. It was perfectly safe. I did come across a quite a few foreign tourist to. Regards Amar Shah My Year 2008 Travels - http://amards14.googlepages.com/
