Where to stay in Sri Lanka

by carissasade Online Now Mar 5, 2013 at 9:14 AM

Hello! Planning a trip to Sri Lanka with a few friends. It's only for a week, so trying to find a place where we can maximize our time. We are 20-somethings looking for a nice, relaxing beach, somewhere to get a massage, and a little bit of nightlife. Basically, a few Western English teachers looking for a beautiful getaway from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia! Any suggestions on where to stay? I've heard good things about Galle. . . Thoughts?

Thanks!

    Hi,

Galle and Unawatuna seems to be the best suited for your requirements as the beaches are nicer down south of the country even though the night life is a bit limited unlike in Colombo where you will find night life at its best in the country.

It is always best to make a reservation in advance in your case considering the no of people in the group. Also, there are plenty of accommodation available in down south depending on your budget.

    Rgds,

    Treshi.

Hi, yes you should have heard good things about Galle, because there are quite a number of good things about Galle. But there is a new Kid on the block, namely the east coast of Sri Lanka. Trinco, passikuda etc... Chaaya blue in Trinco is a wonderfull hotel and the beach is superb. Maalu malu, Amethyst resort is Passikudah are also new hotels. (Passikudah beach is one of the best beaces in the world)Down south(the area of Galle), there is Avani Bentota, Lighthouse Hotel Galle, Eden Hotel, Chaaya Tranz hikkaduwa, Cinnamon Bey, Heritance Ahungalla with varying budgets. what sort of budget are you interested in? and then very close to the Airport on the west coast of Sri Lanka you get new hotels in Negombo Jetwing Blue etc..

    Hi!

I just finished a two-week trip to Sri Lanka. We stayed Sigiriya Village, Thilanka Hotel, The View, Ella, Grosvenar- Eliya, Aqua- Galle, Lagoon Paradise- Tangalle. Flower Garden- Unawatuna. We engaged diving in Unawatuna.
We wanted to recommend a driver/guide I used there for two weeks. He goes by the name Indika. His e-mail address is nilwalaguru@yahoo.com.
He picked me up in the Airport after warmly welcome and we visited Pinnawala, Dambulla Temple, Sigiriya, Anuradhapura ruins, Minneriya Eco Park, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Ella, Yala safari, Tangalle and Galle before returning to Colombo airport. He was a safe driver as driving in Sri Lanka is an endless impending head-on crash, he always on time, his English is medium but he managed everything well. His charges and arranged accommodation were excellent. Quoted price was reasonable. He was extremely helpful.
I can highly recommend this guy for your tour.
    Rajive
