Aside from proximity what do I gain by staying in the old part of Seville. It seems that hotels and hostel prices with a few exceptions are significantly higher there. Can anyone recommend a place or places where I can stay for 70 euros or under a night for one person? I am ok with a hostel or pension so long as it is a clean one. Thanks in advance.

We had a great experience at the Patio de las cruces in barrio de Santa Cruz. You can read my full review here: Sevilla Hotel Tips by oriettaIT Happy travel

"what do I gain by staying in the old part of Seville" quality of life? better holiday experience? More time to wander the lovely streets or sitting in a cafe instead of using public transport? feeling you are in Sevilla vs. staying in a new development area that could be elsewhere?... The place suggested by Orietta looks lovely. And, as said above, there are literally hundreds of hostales and pensiones, many of them decent and well below your budget. Besides booking.com, check venere.com and hostelworld.com Buen viaje!

the old part gives you the full advantage of the local history and customs, its the center of it all. Close to everything. Of course the prices will be a bit higher ,you pay convenience, and historical areas. you can check on destinations above right here for Seville accommodation and see tips by posters like us.or take a look at these site http://sevilla5.com/ http://exploreseville.com/ both dont by locals for years. Hope it helps

When I was in Seville the beginning of this May I stayed outside of the old city near the El Alamillo bridge. On the plus side the room was reasonable (free with hotel points) and I did become more familiar with the river I missed the proximity of the old city. It was a daily walk of nearly 20-30 minutes. If time is at a premium, I would pay the extra$ and stay in the Santa Cruz Barrio area or near the Sevilla Cathedral.

You could also try the Hotel Goya, it's a two star, within your price range and in the Santa Cruz area.
