surf season on south coast

by bionicmedia Online Now Jul 19, 2004 at 6:19 AM

hiya, My girlfriend and i will be in sri lanka for 9 days in mid August and at some point hope to head to mirissa for a few days. Evrywhere i read the surf 'season' for the south coast end s in April. Does this just mean that the wind is pretty much on shore all the time and strong, looking at the charts there seems to be plenty of swell hitting..... are there any sheltered spots down there that are surfable in an onshore and also can i hire a longboard anywhere down there?! many thanks dave

Hi Dave, My boyfriend and I both surf and we will be in Mirissa from Aug 7 to Aug 11. Apparently there is a break at this time of year on the western end of the bay at Mirissa, the waves will be small and kind there so probably more suited to a longboard. are you bringing boards with you? If not, the Water Creatures beach restaurant hires boards. Aragum bay on the east coast, im sure you know is the main surf break. it would be really cool if we bump into you guys! have a great time Lauren
