Best Tourist route round 'Cornish Alps'

      Cornwall Yesterday

I would hate to drive round the china clay area, near St Austell, not know where the best vantage point was for photographs. I have looked at some spectacular photos in books but they don't say exactly where they were taken or if there are any access restrictions. Can anyone help?
Also, is there more than one access road (gate) to the Eden Project or does everyone have to approach from the same side?

Good accomodation in the Lake District

Lake District National Park May 7, 2013 at 3:01 PM

      Hi everyone,

I will be visiting the lake district with my family for about three nights at the start of June (We have a 3 year old and an 8 month old)

Can anyone recommend some excellent accomodation near any of the lakes? We visited Bowness-on-Windermere briefly last year and were enchanted.

Budget is a consideration & self catering is fine, but our main desires are cleanliness, scenery and hopefully the likes of a rustic log fire!

      Thanks for your help folks.

      Greg.

      Wifi, phones

      London 7 hours ago

Trip to London is almost here and I've got a couple of questions

I've booked at a hotel without free wifi, we'll be staying near Westminster/Waterloo. Any place nearby with free wifi? Or are there some chains that have it? I think I've read McDonald's does as well as Caffe Nero and Starbucks.

My niece wants to be able to call people she knows in London and her US phone I suspect charges a lot, I've read about getting a throwaway phone, where would be the best place to do this?

That's it, I won't ask about the weather, what shoes to bring or for you to review my itinerary (mostly because you'd tell me I was trying to do too much!)

    • Meeting up at Heathrow after customs

      Heathrow Yesterday

I apologize for re-posting this question but I am a newbie and I don't know how to remove my first question.

I don't think that I was very clear in that query. Please let me try again. I am landing on a BA flight at LHR Terminal 5 on Sunday mid morning. A friend, who is also flying BA, is expected to arrive at LHR Terminal 5 a couple of hours later.

Is there a comfortable place (with luggage in tow) that I can watch the screens to see the status of her flight and wait for her to clear customs we can then meet up so we can then proceed to the Heathrow Express?

      Thanks everyone for your patience!

Eurostar ticket advance purchase London Brussels

      London 17 hours ago

Other VT's have advised to purchase Eurostar tickets in advance for trips for example London Brussels changing to Amsterdam. How much time in advance is recommenced to get a good price? We are now looking at 3 months from now/May 26st. Also there are 4 seniors traveling together, if that makes any difference. In Brussels changing trains to Amsterdam, there is 15 minutes between trains, does that seem like enough?

      Meadowhall Park and Ride

      Sheffield Apr 20, 2013 at 6:33 AM

I am hoping to use the park & ride and catch the tram to the Don Valley stadium - but it is not clear what the cost will be. I would really appreciate if someone can clarify this. The tram site says it is £3 return or I could get a day travel ticket for £4.00. Another site says the fare is £4.50 and I have to purchase the ticket from a machine in the car park? There was also something about a family travelcard for £6.50 - can 2 adults travel on this without children in the family?
Also one person travelling with us has a UK concessionary travel pass - is this valid from the park and ride for free travel?
Thanks in advance for any information.

      One Day in Sheffield

      Sheffield Jan 1, 2010 at 5:55 PM

We find ourselves with 1 extra day of travel during our trip to Yorkshire. Leaving Whitby toward London for return flight to USA gives us an opportunity to spend a brief time along a direct train route South. Our thinking was check out Whitby hotel early, short train somewhere in order to experience a different destination and next day long travel back to London ( we have already spent some tome there in the beginning of our trip ) Hotel in London will be close to Heathrow. We are interested in Sheffield because of its botanical gardens, the Wintergarden and Magna. Any comments from the VT gang would be appreciated in support of this plan as well as recommendations for hotel choices and things to do for an afternoon in Sheffield. Thanks Skinke

Getting from National Express arrival bus station to Moncrieffe Road, Netheredge

      Sheffield Jul 16, 2009 at 7:22 AM

Can I ask for local advice please, on several related questions. We (2) are arriving in Sheffield on a National Express coach from Leeds on Saturday 18 July. We then need to get to Moncrieffe Road. I gather the bus is the 22. Where exactly does the coach arrive, and where should I catch the 22? Or, as we are two, should we take a taxi? Further question. Do I need to book the National Express coach in advance from Leeds to Sheffield, or can we book when we get to the bus station? We are flying in to Leeds Bradford airport, so we cannot be sure of when we will get to Leeds bus station. Thanks for your help and advice. GI Chuck, Dublin, Ireland
