South Padre Island

So, I was planning my trip to South Padre Island TX and was looking on the website and noticed that the island doesnt have parking. Can anyone tell me where the closest parking area is. Would it be Andy Bowie Park? Please help! We preferre Free parking if any availible. We just coming out for 2 days. Thanks!

Is anybody aware of any tar balls on the beaches of SPI? I hear the tar balls found near Galveston are being attributed to the BP fiasco in the gulf.

First I want to know if it will be warm enough for us to swim? We miss the beaches, so for sure want to do that. Where is the best beach? Where is the best area to go for site seeing and to do cool things? Bascially open for anything fun and not tooo expensive. We are parents of 3 girls and just want to get away and have alone time and relax from our crazy busy lives. Thanks. also maybe name some good hotels that are nice but cheap.

we are planning on staying in SPI for a few days in early October - is the weather still nice enough for us to chill out in the beach & go swimming in the ocean? Also - any recommendations on local, non-chain hotels, b&bs, hostels, etc? Thanks!

I and another single mom girlfriend are traveling to South Padre this weekend. We can only splurge on one meal for us and our boys (11, 11 and 8). I'm looking for a fun restaurant on the water (bayside), and if they'd let us make reservations for Friday night, even better. If no reservation, how would you suggest we get a good view of the fireworks on the bay? If you have any fun, affordable, activity suggestions, they are welcome too.

I need to rent a van or bus for May 17th for about 8 hours for approx. 12 people. Do you do that kind of service or is there anyone you can recommend? Thank You, Jana Hildreth

we are seniors planning to travel to spi begining march 1st. where to stay? i like to walk to shopping while hubby naps. needs to be oceanfront. hotel? condo? what is brownsville like/would it be better? i'm hoping to beat the majority of springbreakers, will we? any help, greatly appreciated. dianainpgh

WE are thinking of visiting South Padre Island the last week of Jan - Feb. My husband and I usually stay at Hilton or Marriotts, or places of historic status. What hotel can you suggest that best meets this criteria? We would like to be on/walking distance to the beach and not just a brick building. Need some atmosphere. Thanks, PHD

Where is Club Pelican West. I heard it has an amatuer Karoke contes, but the web page doesn't say where it is. Is it in a hotel?

We are coming out in July and have a group with 3 families with kids. we are renting and house and trying to find out if there are any grocrey delivery services on the island or any services that deliver to the island. Since we are all getting in in the late afternoon and evening it would make for an easier first night if no one had to stop on their way in. Can anyone let me know if they have this type of service? Much appreciated!!

hey guys, glad your here.... I was hoping I could bounce a few things off ya..... I am coming down for some EXTREMELY overdue downtime.... I'm a 33 yr old single chick traveling by myself. My friend has a bungalow I'm staying at, address hasn't been disclosed to me yet. I won't be able to come until the second week in March. APPARENTLY that's not the best time for a 30 something due to spring break. I heard i may not even be able to get over the bridge... is this true? I'd loose it if I showed up after a 25 hour drive from Michigan and couldn't get in.... How do I avoid this? Besides the obvious don't come unitl April..\LOLL Where do I want to avoid? I don't mind partying, but I am not that college crowd girl anymore. I'm planning on staying awhile maybe a few months.. are there places on the island I can get temporary cash jobs if I run low on funds? I'm NOT a homely, trashy, uneducated, boring, antisocial, drug addict, freakshow. And what about cell phone reception on the island I'm with Centennial, if that helps. Also internet.... wireless? or don't bother...? And island transportation..... one of my buddies said you can get anywhere on the island for1 cab ride, I'll have my car , but I could just imagine the parking or lack of parking. I also plan on bringing my mountain bike, is that a good idea or not? And the last question I'll plague you with is this, I plan on eating at home a lot.... what is the cost of living there like? How much more expensive are the grocery stores compared to main land? Or is this not an issue... Ahhhh.. and what about gas prices there? I'm paying between2.15 and2.29 a gallon up here in Michigan. I soooooo appreciate you help, hope I didn't try to cover too much there, I just like to do as much research as possible before going to a new place so I'm not blindsided. I'm openminded to any suggestions, questions, comments.... thanks......
